Screens are becoming part of children’s lives earlier than ever—but new research shows that how parents use screens matters just as much as how much time children spend on them.

A recent study found that when parents use digital devices to calm upset toddlers (known as Parental Digital Emotion Regulation), children may struggle to develop their own emotional regulation skills. Over time, this pattern was linked to higher anger, poorer emotional control, and greater dependence on screens for soothing.
The study followed children from ages 3.5 to 4.5 and found that while screens may work in the moment, relying on them too often can make it harder for young children to learn how to manage frustration and big feelings on their own.

Did you know the first 1,000 days of life—from conception to age two—are critical for shaping a child’s microbiome and immune system?

A recent study shows that early immune development depends on maternal and microbial influences, not just genetics. Factors such as birth mode, breastfeeding, antibiotic use, and environment all play a role in building a balanced microbiome and a resilient immune system.

Disruptions to early microbial colonisation—especially in the mouth and gut—may increase risk for conditions like weight gain, autoimmune disorders, and neurodevelopmental issues later in life.

This research highlights how nurturing the microbiome during pregnancy and infancy can support lifelong health and reduce disease risk.

Our Story

I want to share information on chiropractic, health and wellbeing and I specifically want to share info that has a pregnancy or child focus.

I first became interested in caring for our ‘little people’ when I was in chiropractic college and gave birth to my son. I was lucky enough to have two mentors in the profession who were passionate about seeing babies and kids and they put on a seminar around this.

After I graduated I pursued further study in the field of paediatrics and began helping more and more pregnant mums2be, babies and children in my practice.

I believe that it takes a village to raise a child, and even more so in todays busy world. I see my part as a ‘connector’ - where I can assist people have enhanced lives through chiropractic, and also connect them to other sources of information, or people in our community who may also enrich the tapestry of the life in question. This happens every day in our office and I’m extremely grateful for all the wonderful networks locally that I have built up. We all have the same objective - enhancing the health and wellbeing of whoever we are helping. :-)
