World AIDS Day — No One Left Behind

World AIDS Day on 1 December is an important moment to raise awareness, honour those living with HIV, and reflect on the progress still needed to ensure no one is left behind.

At Springs Medical, we stand alongside our community with compassion and respect. Our experienced GPs provide confidential, inclusive care and several of our doctors are accredited HIV prescribers. If you would like more information about HIV-related care or our trained GPs, please visit our website or speak with our friendly reception team, we’re here to support you.

To mark the day, the ChillOut Festival invites the community to gather for an evening of remembrance and reflection. Join the event on Monday 1 December 2025 at the Grove of Gratitude, Wombat Flat, meeting from 5.30pm for a 6pm start. The gathering will include a walk to the AIDS Tree at the Bleakley Street carpark for storytelling, followed by Hero Tales, candle lighting and the reading of names of those we have lost to AIDS. You’re welcome to share personal experiences or bring names to add to the Hero Roll if you wish.

Together, we remember, support and continue to build a compassionate and informed community.

Introducing Dr Nick Rhead

We’re delighted to introduce Dr Rhead, a highly skilled and deeply compassionate GP whose career has taken him across the UK, Melbourne and some of Australia’s most remote communities.

Dr Rhead studied medicine in Liverpool in the UK, where he worked for two years in major metropolitan hospitals and gained valuable experience in ENT surgery, respiratory medicine, diabetes care and neurology. His passion for public health became evident early in his career when he founded StreetDoctors, an award-winning charity that continues to equip high risk young people across the UK in vital life-saving skills. This commitment to community wellbeing remains at the heart of his work today.

After relocating to Melbourne in 2014, Dr Rhead further expanded his clinical expertise through roles in adult and paediatric emergency medicine and in obstetrics and gynaecology at the Northern Hospital. He later moved into rural and remote healthcare, providing both GP and emergency care to communities right across Australia. These experiences have shaped Dr Rhead into a thoughtful, adaptable and community-focused practitioner with a strong interest in chronic disease management, diabetes, men’s health, urgent care and preventative medicine.

After settling in Daylesford with his family, Dr Rhead enjoys being part of the local community and providing high-quality, compassionate care to patients of all ages.

International Men’s Day — Celebrating Men and Boys at Every Stage of Life
19 November

Today, we join communities around the world in recognising International Men’s Day. A time to celebrate the positive contributions men make to their families, workplaces and communities and to shine a light on the importance of men’s health and wellbeing.

At Springs Medical, we’re proud to support the men and boys in our community with a team of exceptional male GPs, allied health practitioners and dedicated staff who deliver expert, compassionate care every day. From preventative health to chronic disease management, mental health support and urgent care, we’re here to help men stay well at every stage of life.

Your Health Matters: Key Checks for Men
Keeping on top of regular health screening is one of the most powerful ways men can protect their long-term wellbeing. Here are four essential checks:

▶ Blood pressure check (every year): A quick test that helps detect early risks of heart attack, stroke and kidney disease.
▶ Cholesterol and blood sugar test (every two years from age 40): Identifies early signs of heart disease and diabetes before symptoms appear.
▶ Bowel cancer screening (every two years from age 50): A simple, free home test through the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program that can save lives.
▶ Prostate health check (from age 50 — or 40 with a family history): Speak with your GP about PSA testing and early detection.

International Men’s Day is also a reminder to check in, with ourselves and with the community around us. We encourage men of all ages to prioritise their wellbeing.

National Skin Cancer Action Week
16–22 November 2025
Protect your skin. Protect your future.

National Skin Cancer Action Week, is an important reminder to stay vigilant with sun safety and regular skin checks. This year marks the 40th anniversary of the campaign, highlighting the importance of practising all five essential sun protection habits:

1️⃣ Slip on sun-protective clothing
2️⃣ Slop on SPF50/50+ broad-spectrum sunscreen (20 mins before heading out, reapply every 2 hours)
3️⃣ Slap on a broad-brim or legionnaire-style hat
4️⃣ Seek shade wherever possible
5️⃣ Slide on sunglasses that meet Australian Standards

Protecting your skin today helps prevent issues later and early detection remains one of the most effective tools for managing skin cancer risk.

At Springs Medical, we offer advanced skin cancer screening using FotoFinder Automated Total Body Mapping (ATBM) at our Daylesford and Kyneton clinics. This leading technology creates a detailed full-body skin map in minutes, helping to identify new or changing lesions early.

Our experienced Skin Doctors include:
Dr Brad Wyer, Dr James Smith, Dr Alex Romain, Dr James Al-Israel, Dr Hoang Le and Dr Wendy Tran.

If you have fair skin, multiple moles, or a personal or family history of skin cancer, or if it’s been over 12 months since your last check, now is the ideal time to book.

Appointments available in Daylesford and Kyneton.
Book online or call our friendly team today.

Your skin health matters — this week and every week.
