Here are some gentle, realistic ways to get through it, especially if your brain’s a bit fried, your emotions are running high, or you’ve forgotten what day it is.

💛 One thing at a time
💛 One snack at a time
💛 One deep breath at a time

You’ve got this, and if you don’t, we’ve got snacks.

🎥 Save this for your exam week survival kit

Okay, hear us out.

We know you worry about the future. We know you worry about your child out in the “real world”, and whether their current challenges will be there forever.

But sometimes, we need to let go of this worry about the future and just focus on the connection in the moment.

That’s what we’re in control of - and offering co-regulation in this very moment, no matter what’s going on, is the most chance you have if influencing the future anyway.

🐯Notice and name what you see

🐯Reduce demand and expectations

🐯Offer connection, not control

🐯Keep one foot in your regulation, and put the other foot on their energy level

Everyone’s talking about “filling your cup”…

Meanwhile, you’re just trying not to spill it while three other people drink from it and someone’s asking for a snack.

Self-care doesn’t have to be aesthetic.
Sometimes it’s breathing in the pantry, vibing in the carpark, or staring into space like it’s a meditation practice.

You’re doing great. Even if your cup looks more like a mug with a crack and some glitter glue holding it together 💛

👇 What’s your version of self-care that technically counts?

Some people use a weighted blanket for sleep. Others (👋) use it to survive being a person.

Whether you’re decompressing after a meltdown, buffering before brushing your teeth, or transforming into a burrito of emotional stability — your weighted blanket gets it.

It’s not just a comfort tool. It’s nervous system armour. 🧠⚡️

What’s your favourite way to use yours? (Bonus points if it’s slightly unhinged.)

💛 It’s here!

The All About PDA e-booklet is officially live in our online shop.

We know how hard it can be to find affirming, accurate, and practical information about PDA. So when our co-director, Dr Jade Goodman, saw that gap, she decided to fill it.

This 70-page parent guide brings together the latest research, lived experience, and neuroaffirming strategies to help parents understand and support their PDA child with compassion.

Because when we understand why demands can feel like threats, we can move from frustration to connection.

📘 All About PDA is available now in our online shop - www.thepsychhive.com/shop.

There are a lot of misconceptions about PDA, and most of them miss the heart of what is really going on.

PDA isn’t about being difficult or defiant. It is rooted in a deep need for autonomy and a nervous system that experiences everyday demands as threats to safety.

When we understand PDA through this lens, we can replace judgment with compassion and work alongside children, rather than against them.

Our All About PDA booklet unpacks the myths, offers practical support, and helps parents and professionals approach PDA in a neuroaffirming way.

📘 All About PDA launches Thursday 23 October.

Comment PDA below if you’d like us to send you the link when it’s live.
