It’s tricky finding the Wesley Hall at the Wesley Uniting Church!

This video was taken just before class this evening. I didn’t get a chance to post it then, but hopefully these directions will be helpful for next time.

Thank you for the gorgeous class btw 💃✨

Everything in a Nia class is intentional.
This great Nia Australia FB post takes us through the 7 cycles of a Nia class “each awakening a new layer of awareness and aliveness”.

💃🏻 I’m home again to my body, mind, emotions and spirit after a week of immersion into the fabulous Nia Art of Communication (Blue Belt) training.

🙏🏻 I have such a huge appreciation and respect for the content and delivery by two amazing women, trainers Laurie Bass and Sophie Marsh!

💃🏻 My goodness… there was so much joy, connection, growth, movement, personally and collectively! I will be bringing a whole bunch of juicy tools to share with you in class when we start up on the 14th October

✨ Congratulations to all the new Blue Belters! We have such a wonderful and growing Nia community ✨

This speaks for itself 💃🏻🩵💙

A large meta-analysis led by Australian researchers shows that structured dance programs (lasting at least six weeks) often match—and in some cases exceed—other kinds of physical activity in boosting psychological and cognitive health. Genres ranged from aerobic and modern dance to theatrical, traditional, and social dance, and participants included healthy adults as well as people with chronic illnesses.

Compared with walking, weight training, martial arts, and team sports, dance was especially effective at improving emotional well-being, reducing symptoms of depression, increasing motivation, and enhancing certain memory or social cognition outcomes.

What seems to set dance apart is its combination of physical, cognitive, and social richness. Learning choreography challenges memory; moving with others in group dances strengthens social bonds; the artistic and expressive aspects lift mood.

Also, participants reported they stuck with dance programs more reliably than many other exercise routines, highlighting that enjoyment and adherence are key to long-term benefit.

If you like, I can pull out a short takeaway quote or a headline for this finding.

🌸 This time last week a little group of us Nia gals met up for brunch at D&M, which used to be our regular thing after Thursday morning class.

🌸 Conversation went to “where are we going to go now that class is in Kingston???”

🌸 It turns out there are plenty of fantastic places in Kingston. We can find our new favourite cafe and continue our after class chai chats. What an adventure 😃☕️
