Over this wet and wild weather weekend, Dee Why SLSC has been hosting an awesome group of 36 youth Lifesavers (13yrs-17yrs) from Clubs on the Mid-North Coast of NSW who have been visiting Sydney on a 3 night Camp to develop their skills and to visit a range of facilities to learn about the different pathways and opportunities in Surf Life Saving and emergency rescue πŸ›Ÿβ›‘οΈ

Saturday morning our Dee Why youth joined them on a visit to the impressive Surf Life Saving Sydney Offshore Rescue Boat at Malabar ("SR30") and then viewed the high-tech Randwick Council Lifeguards control-centre at Maroubra. All of the youth then joined Patrols along the Northern Beaches for the afternoon πŸŒŠβ›ˆοΈ

Lots of fun, and some great skills and friendships gained for our future life saving champions. A huge thanks to the Clubs on the Mid-North Coast for coming to stay in Dee Why! πŸ˜πŸ‘

A huge congratulations to our 5 Dee Why Surf Life Saving Club members who were today recognised by the Governor-General with the National Medal πŸŽ–οΈπŸ…

National Medals are a prestigious part of the Australian honours system, recognising long and diligent service by individuals who risk their lives or safety to protect or assist the community in times of emergency or national disaster.

Collectively these 5 Dee Why members have volunteered over 2000 hours patrolling our beaches - whilst also giving countless additional hours to other significant roles such as Trainers, Facilitators, Assessors, IRB Driver/Crew, Rescue Water Craft (aka Jet Ski Operators), Nippers Age Managers, Nippers Water Safety and just about every other volunteer role that keeps our Club running πŸ‘πŸ‘

It's a huge honour to have you in our Club & congratulations again to Sean Cassidy, Steve Haggett, Simon Navin, Tim Parker and Herve Vichemont.

Surf Life Saving Australia (SLSA) congratulates the 212 Surf Lifesavers recognised with National Medals in SLSA National Medal Batch 54.

This year, 191 members received National Medals for 15 years of service and 20 were awarded their 1st Clasps for 25 years of service. A special mention to Richard Lissenden ESM from North Bondi SLSC, who has been recognised with his 2nd Clasp for 35 years of dedication to the Surf Life Saving movement.

First Aid Friday – Anaphylaxis
It’s peak β€˜allergy’ season so let’s remind ourselves about the signs of allergic reactions and actions by following the link to the first aid plan produced by the Australian Society of Clinical Immunology and Allergy. Remember an Epipen (300mg adrenaline) is located in the anaphylaxis and asthma box on the shelf in the first aid room. Extra expired Epipens are stored in the upright white cupboards to the right of the bench in the first aid room (these are still OK to give in an emergency if all stock has been used).https://www.allergy.org.au/images/stories/anaphylaxis/2026/ASCIA_First_Aid_Plan_Anaphylaxis_2pg.pdf

Note, tick bites may result in later allergy to mammalian meat allergy. Read this: https://www.csiro.au/en/news/All/Articles/2025/December/Mammalian-meat-allergy

First Aid Friday – Recognition and treatment for diabetic hypoglycaemia (Low sugar level)
Hypoglycaemia occurs when there is not enough glucose in the blood. People with diabetes may experience this if they have had too much insulin, not enough carbohydrate (missed meal), had alcohol or/& exercised. The signs and symptoms are sometimes tricky because they are similar to intoxication! Check wrists & neck for medical alerts and upper arms for glucose monitor. If in doubt treat for hypoglycaemia. The attached provides some guidance on the recognition and management of diabetic hypoglycaemia.

πŸ–οΈ We’re proud to announce our new Nippers Sponsorship at Dee Why Surf Life Saving Club! πŸ–οΈ

If you’ve been down to Dee Why Beach recently, you may have already spotted our Complete Chiropractic flag flying proudly on the sand!
