Meet Charmaine, one of Freedom Eye Laser’s ophthalmologists, who has been caring for patients’ vision for over 20 years.
Charmaine began her journey in eye care in 2004, drawn to ophthalmology for both its scientific complexity and its real-world impact. “The eye is the most incredible part of the body. It is beautiful from an aesthetic perspective, but also marvellous from a scientific standpoint” she says. “The field of ophthalmology is very progressive and it is exciting to be part of that.”
In her role, Charmaine works closely with her patients to thoroughly assess eye health in the context of their overall wellbeing. She focuses on clear communication, helping patients understand their condition and make informed decisions about their care, whether that involves lifestyle or dietary choices, prescribed medications, surgery, laser or other procedures.
Charmaine works as part of our close-knit clinical team alongside Dr Genge, where their complementary skill sets allow patients to receive comprehensive, coordinated care.
What Charmaine loves most about her work is building long-term relationships with patients. “Although naturally our vision deteriorates with age and disease, many of our patients actually show improvements over time or at least stability and this is very gratifying”, she explains.
With decades of experience, Charmaine brings perspective as well as expertise. “Book knowledge is one thing, but over the last 20 years of practice, I am able to draw on the experience of so many patients. I think that my patients feel very reassured that they are not alone during a stressful time when they are receiving a diagnosis.”
