Stays at The Soul Shack are full of fun, laughter, and adventures, whilst focussing on developing friendships and connections with others. We create memories by working as a team to celebrate each other, offer and receive support together, and ensure everyone is included and knows they belong. A high level of support is provided to attendees with activities such as snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef, kayaking down crystal-clear streams, swimming and exploring gorgeous waterholes, nightly animal love, themed events, campfires, costumes, craft projects, as well as all sorts of other quirky activities specifically designed to increase motivation, encourage socialisation, and improve self-confidence, as stepping-stones to building life skills. All costs (such as activities, meals, accommodation) are covered through attendees NDIS plan, using either 'Core' or 'Capacity Building' Funding. Our experienced Occupational Therapist has structured the programs at The Soul Shack based on current research and evidence-based practices, with delivery in an alternative, non-clinical, back-to-basics, nature filled approach. The Soul Shack is a large farm stay, located on a rural property in Deeral, Cairns Region, Far North Queensland. It is a rustic, quirky, unique large farmhouse with a huge indoor magical garden and seating area. We are located approximately 15 minutes to Gordonvale, 45 minutes to Cairns CBD,10 minutes to Babinda and 30 minutes to Innisfail. The property has resident miniature horses and pig, cat, small dog, lizards, chickens, ducks and cows in the adjoining paddock. Activities offered at The Soul Shack include laser tag, team games, lawn sports, huge outdoor movie screen, karaoke, electric bikes, pool table, extensive costumes, camp fire, themed events, air hockey, ping pong, board games, animal care, gardening, cooking, crafts, treasure hunt, creek play, and other activities designed to suit particular group events. Off-site activities include exploring an abundance of local waterfalls and swimming holes, snorkelling at Frankland Islands, Kayaking, Stand up paddle boarding, walking in gorgeous rainforests, geocaching, visiting pubs and cafes, shopping and picnics. The Soul Shack is operated by FNQ Occupational Therapy, its primary goal is to create ‘the perfect world’ village experience. A place where every person is valued, equal, respected and included. The Soul Shack is owned and operated by Sylvia Read, an Occupational Therapist with over 20 years’ experience working with people of all ages with disability and mental health challenges. All support provided at The Soul Shack is based on current research, best practices and evidence based approaches, with delivery in an alternative, non-clinical, back to basics, nature filled approach, through soul to soul connections. The Soul Shack is an NDIS registered provider (therapeutic supports, FNQ Occupational Therapy). Occupational Therapists believe there is always opportunity for individuals to build capacity when receiving support, this belief is instilled in every worker. Therefore either Core or Capacity Building sections of an NDIS plan can be used to fund supports at The Soul Shack.
