More Supported Independent Living (SIL) available in 2026.

At The Soul Shack, our permanent residents are simply called our locals.
Because this isn’t just a service, it’s home.

Being a local means friendships, connection, socialising, belonging, and being an active part of the wider community, not sitting on the sidelines of life.

Last week our locals, their parents, carers, and our crew jumped on a party bus for a Christmas lights tour - laughing, singing, and celebrating Christmas together. Moments like these perfectly capture what life at The Shack is really about.

We currently have 4 locals living permanently at The Shack, and in 2026 we’ll be expanding to welcome more adults looking for a true home, long-term stability, and genuine connection.

Families have shared things like:
💬 “We trust you 100%. We know she is safe.”
💬 “Your crew are our extended family.”
💬 “I know you truly love him.”

At The Soul Shack:
• Families are always the experts and number one in their loved one’s life
• We encourage open communication, including the locals families chatting amongst themselves.
• We don’t judge burnout, family capacity, traditions, expectations, or any other aspects of our locals lives.
• We apologise when we don’t quite get it right and keep learning together.

Our locals have:
• Strong friendships and social lives
• Visual supports for daily routines, menus, and individual contribution tasks
• A clear fortnightly activity itinerary
• Meaningful roles within their home
• Regular community involvement and activities
• A permanent caring crew

The summer heat is definitely here, but that hasn’t slowed us down! We’ve been finding all the best ways to keep cool!

What a massive week it was with our Wildlife Warriors!
We’ve spent so much time exploring, slowing down and soaking up everything the outdoors has to offer. From hanging out with the animals to discovering little moments of magic together, this week was one to remember.

There were new friendships formed, plenty of connection and so many shared laughs. Watching our teens support each other, step outside their comfort zones and truly enjoy being in the moment was something special.

We hope everyone had the best time... because we sure did! We already can’t wait to see these amazing faces again and create even more memories together. 🌿

On Friday night, our Soul Shack locals (SIL) headed out to Cairns Convention Centre to watch 'ABBA Thank You For The Music' and WOW, what a night! 🎶

From the moment the music started, there was singing, dancing, clapping and huge smiles all around. Our crew had an absolute blast soaking up the atmosphere together.

It was one of those nights where the fun didn’t want to end! Great music, great company and memories we’ll be talking about for a long time!

Thank you for the music! We’ll definitely be back.

We’ve had an awesome time last week catching up with friends, sharing laughs and soaking up all the good vibes. With the hot weather well and truly here, there’s been plenty of swimming to stay cool!

Alongside our swimming adventures, we’ve been enjoying time at the Shack, mixing things up with indoor activities and some seriously delicious baking. Safe to say the kitchen smelled incredible. The smiles said it all!

Merry & Bright Weekend!

Our weekend was bursting with connection and new friendships!
We’ve had participants walking in as strangers and leaving as mates, sharing stories, laughs, inside jokes and in some cases, not wanting to leave at all! (Which we secretly love)

Every activity has been filled with joy, teamwork and those little moments that remind us why we do what we do. Whether it’s hanging out in the sunshine or creating something special, the vibes have been nothing short of Merry & Bright.

As the year wraps up, we’re grateful for the community we’ve built and the incredible humans who make the Soul Shack feel like home.

Here’s to more smiles, more memories and even more friendships heading into the festive season! 🎄🌸

November to Remember at the Soul Shack!

What an incredible month it’s been! Our crew have packed November with non stop fun, growth and connection. Exactly what we love to see at the Shack.

From energising morning walks to kickstart our day, to cooling off in whatever water we can find, we’ve been making the most of every moment. Our bush walks have been full of wildlife spotting and big laughs.

We’ve enjoyed plenty of group activities, games, teamwork challenges, art sessions and a whole lot of smiles. The friendships forming this month have been something really special!

With summer just around the corner, we’re gearing up for even more adventures, creativity and memory making. Stay tuned!

At the Shack, we love keeping our days busy, meaningful and full of laughter. Every picnic or outing is a chance to make memories, enjoy good company and soak up all the good times — and we truly enjoy every minute of it!
