Take a moment, notice what you can hear. Just notice what is your sense of hearing is drawn to.
Allow yourself to fully focus on that 1 of the sounds.
What are you noticing about it? Perhaps it's the volume or pitch? Is it loud, soft, rhythmic? Does it sound light or deep? Annoying or pleasant?
What else are you aware of?

As Christmas fast approaches, it's time to consider how to navigate family celebrations for your neurodivergent child.
It can be quite an overwhelming time for your child, full of sensory overwhelm and social expectations that they may not understand, and that's OK.
To help them, here are a few tips ๐๐ซถ๐ผ
It starts with talking with your child as soon as you can, well before the event, and talking to them about what they may expect, who may be there, about how many people might be there. What kind of foods (if you know), games, etc.
We have a chat with our son (18 years old) at least a week or 2 in advance, about what may happen on the day, etc.
Gently reassure them that it's OK not to want to take part in activities while there. AND THEY DO NOT HAVE TO.
They can wear what they like. They DO NOT have to hug or talk to people. Take earphones and other sensory items to help them feel secure.
And take food they enjoy eating, if there's nothing that they will eat or drink. In our household, we call it their "safe" food.
If you can, have a chat with whoever is hosting. Discuss and set-up, boundaries with others/relatives about not forcing your child to hug or take part in activities, making sure there is a space for your child to have some quiet time, away from the noises and other sensory inputs that may cause overwhelm, is important.
And when you do go home, they will need time to reset.
Give your child quiet time, in their room, no talking, low stimulation activities. If your child is ADHD (hyperactive), they may need extra stimulation.
Acknowledge they have had a BIG day, lots happened and it's Ok to feel tired, they did really well. (even if they did have a meltdown).
And try and allow them to have rest days in between events if you can. Every little bit helps.

Thank you to Reframing Autism
Neuroaffirming means recognising that not everyone experiences joy in the same way - and thatโs okay. ๐
This holiday season, letโs rethink traditions and expectations. Ditching โhow itโs always been doneโ can open the door to celebrations that feel calmer, safer, and more joyful for everyone.
Inclusion starts with flexibility, empathy, and the understanding that thereโs no one โrightโ way to celebrate. โ๏ธ ๐

Reset In 5 Reminder
If you're feeling overwhelmed, stressed, or anxious, it's OK to take 5 minutes to stop and reset.
Try this 5 Minute Reset
๐ฆ๐๐ผ๐ฝ what you're doing.
๐ฃ๐ฎ๐๐๐ฒ - notice, and acknowledge, what or how you're feeling.
Whatever it is, it's Ok to feel or think this way.......even if you can't quite describe what you are sensing. It might simply be a sense of "yuck" and that's OK.
๐ฅ๐ฒ๐๐ฒ๐ - It's nice to place your hand on your heart or your belly, notice the rise and fall of your breath, where ever that may be in your body.
๐๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ฎ๐๐ต๐ฒ - notice your breath, allow yourself to take a couple of slow breaths, as deeply as you can, then allow your breath to flow naturally. Just notice.
And, if you feel like it, go and grab a cuppa or step outside for a moment and get some fresh air.
You can do this as many times as you need, whenever you need to.โค๏ธ
Self-care needn't take long.

Reset In 5 - Pause. Breathe. Reset
Take a moment, right now, ๐๐๐๐. Put down what ever it is you are doing, turn your devices off.
And ๐๐ผ๐๐๐.
Notice your surrounds, what you can see, hear, touch, smell, and taste. Doesn't matter what it is, simply notice.
The is no right or wrong way. Simply allow yourself to "BE" in this moment, connecting to your senses.
Place a hand on your belly, and then allow yourself to ๐ฝ๐๐๐ผ๐๐๐.
Breathe deeply as you are able to, softly, slowly. Then slowly exhale.
Repeat this as often as you need to.
Feel that? That's you taking back control. โค๏ธ

Reset In 5 Moment - Touch
Time for a 5 Minute Reset.
So, taking a moment, notice what you may be touching right now.
What are you noticing about the surface or object you may be holding? Textured, smooth or a combination? Perhaps allowing yourself to notice how it's shape feels to touch?
If you are not holding or touching anything, perhaps take a moment to notice how your body feels against the surface that you are sitting on? Standing on? Notice the pressure of your body or feet.
Perhaps it's the sensation of clothing against your skin? Is it soft or heavy? Does feel nice or unpleasant?
What else are you aware of? Take a moment to notice one thing about surface, object or sensation, simply notice.

Please, when looking for support services or therapies for your child, choose ones that are evidence-based, backed by significant, peer-reviewed research.
Avoid any based on pseudoscience, such as this one discussed in this article.
They could be harmful, not only to the physical health of your child, but may cause long-term mental health concerns.
Experts warn against signing up for autism therapies that are not evidence-based, as diagnoses rise.

Today, I'm Grateful for.......
It's time to celebrate the little things.
Gratitude can shift your mindset. What's one thing that you are grateful for today?
What one small thing changed your day or your child's day for the better?
As a parent of a neurodivergent child, it's the little things that make a huge difference.

Why did I start this page? Well, it started quite some time ago, about 15 years or so now, when I first was formally introduced to theses wonderful oils. I had always been interested, and had used essential oils purely for pleasure, usually in an oil burner up until then.
I say formally, as prior to that moment I had had no real education in the use of essential oils. I had just pottered about, choosing oils that smelled good to me, and that made me feel good. As part of my Certificate in Therapeutic Massage course, we were all required to study Aromatherapy. My tiny mind was blown, when I was introduced to the wide variety of applications these oils could be used for! Thanks to the wonderful Sue Cook, who trained with the amazing Robin Minski.
The Aromatherapy course did focus our training around the benefits of using these oils in Therapeutic Massage, teaching us which oil to use for the mood of the client, to help uplift, calm down, refresh, etc., we were taught how the oils could help illness and to injuries to contraindications of oils for certain illnesses, chronic or acute. And what AMAZED me the most was we only used 10 essential oils to do this!
It was inspiring to say the least! It also started me thinking, what about other essential oils? What can they do? So off I went, teaching myself, researching (if you know me, you know I love to research), a bit of trial and error along the way (which is great way to learn).
The oils I used were always Therapeutic grade oils and therefore very costly, and I struggled to find an affordable, high quality product range that I could use and share more often. Then I discovered doTERRA.
Which has led me to here, this new page, dedicated to essential oils, to teach and learn, and hopefully inspire.
