A common question we get about liposuction in abdomen especially is, will liposuction cause loose skin?
Liposuction targets fat cells and does not necessarily address skin elasticity. However, whether you experience loose skin after liposuction depends on several factors.
If you already have good skin elasticity, the skin may shrink and conform to the new contours after the fat has been removed. This is normally assisted with wearing a post operative garment for 7-10 days.
On the contrary, poor skin elasticity, often due to aging, significant weight fluctuations or genetics, may result in loose or sagging skin. If Dr Rastogi believes the skin quality will impact your results, he will advise other procedures that may assist, like an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck which removes excess skin), thigh lift, arm lift for example.
Another factor is how much fat will be removed. Removing a small or moderate amount of fat is less likely to create loose skin. Whereas large-volume liposuction may leave more excess skin behind, increasing the risk of sagging.
During your in rooms consultation, Dr Rastogi will assess your skin to ensure you have realistic expectations about the potential results and provide all options so you can make an informed decision about this procedure.
Dr Rastogi has performed liposuctions for 28 years and did his advanced training with the father of liposuction in Rome – perfecting the technique over the years, and merging his artistic eye, Dr Rastogi truly enjoys performing this procedure and consulting with patients who are thinking about having liposuction.
