Massage therapy is part of a traditional medicine and the holistic system of healing methods,it began about 5,000 years ago. It has had a journey of evolvement, from beginnings in India with Hindus in Ayurveda âlife health,â having balance with the mind, body and spirit, travelling to China connecting this knowledge of treatment to Chinese medicine, martial arts and the spiritual yoga training of Buddhists and Taoists. Across to Egypt where bodywork techniques developed into pressure point and reflexology, over to Greece, where athletes used massage to condition their bodies before competitions. We have Japan putting their own twist on it, calling it âanma,â later known as Shiatsu. Moving forward in time in Sweden, who gave us the gift of âŚ.Swedish Massage. Then finally America jumping on board with ârubbersâ yes this was their name!! first found within orthopaedic surgery practice. In the 1800s, the names âmasseurâ and âmasseuseâ became the official western title for the modality. Bringing us all the way to current existence, and it hasnât changed a whole lot, itâs still very much all about whole body heath and not just treating the physical dysfunction but the proven benefits on our mind, body & spirits health and actual healing, So really my point isâŚ. Itâs one of the OG of medicine!! or alternative therapies as we now call it. Hope you like the History lesson.
