Yesterday I was given the opportunity to take part in a progressive workshop hosted by sigvaris group australia titled: "Power of positive thinking in lymphoedema, exploring four unique perspectives of patient-centered care"

The workshop explored the benefits to the patient and the clinician when a true "patient centred care" approach is taken. Practical steps on how to achieve this were also explained. Each participant also received a copy of the book - "Lymphoedema United - You are NOT Alone!" which includes 34 stories of living with lymphoedema from around the World - including mine :)

My perspective drew upon my own words featured in the book: "Lymphoedema has given me a sense of purpose I could never have imagined" and allowed me to share my journey from dispirited patient to empowered patient advocate. I was also able to underscore the benefits of employing a patient centred approach to lymphoedema care based on my own lived experience.

I always think the test of a successful session/forum/workshop is when participants stay back to talk. This was certainly the case yesterday. I want to thank yesterday's wonderful clinicians for taking an active interest in and for the warmth and generosity of their interactions throughout the workshop. Thank you Damien from Sigvaris for creating this workshop and for including the patient voice. I learned a lot from it and came away feeling empowered too 💙
