A tradie from out of town came to see me the other week after an accident at work earlier this year. He’d injured his shoulder, and although it wasn’t getting worse, it wasn’t healing either. What concerned him most was that the grip strength in his dominant hand was steadily declining.

During an initial Bowen session, I focus on finding and resolving the underlying issue that’s causing the problem or blocking healing, before finishing with the full Bowen Body Balance.

By the end of the treatment his pain had gone, his neck was moving freely, he felt balanced and lighter in himself and his grip strength had returned, stronger than the other hand.

He laughed and said he wished he’d come months ago. Another example of someone who didn’t need to suffer for so long.

The Beloved Business Coach was only running on two cylinders yesterday, with nausea, brain fog, a feeling of inner imbalance and zero energy. He said he felt like he’d had 45 beers the night before (he hadn’t, of course!).

Luckily, he had a Bowen treatment and by the end was already feeling 85% better. Today he’s running on all four cylinders again, 100%, and even heading out for a round of golf this evening.

It’s amazing how quickly the body can recalibrate when it’s given the right support.

In June I treated a calf that had broken his humerus in the growth plate. After two muscle release therapy sessions, with the addition of some vibrational medicine from Belinda Anderson and wise nutritional support from his caring human, the results were spectacular.

Even so, I was realistic about the possible long-term effects. Growth plate injuries can prevent the bone from lengthening properly as the animal grows.

But today I received this photo of the same calf (no longer a baby) and it looks like the leg is growing perfectly normally after all.

Happy days indeed.

One of my lovely clients in her 80s shared something today that really touched me.

Two years ago, when she started having regular monthly Bowen treatments, she was an anxious mess. Driving to her daughter’s house two hours away was such a struggle she often had to stop several times to calm herself, so she didn’t visit often and missed out on seeing her grandchildren sing, dance and play sport.

She’s only missed one monthly treatment in two years, and today she told me how much she’s now enjoying her weekends, popping down to see her grandkids perform or play, and driving there with ease. She said the anxiety just isn’t there anymore, and she can handle changes in her routine so much better.

She told me Bowen has made her life richer and more meaningful in so many ways. I couldn’t wish for better feedback than that.

A message that made my day:
“Do you have any appointments for my 9-year-old whose shoulder lacks mobility? Thought Bowen would be our first choice.”

As a Bowen Therapist, I know how this gentle, pause-based treatment influences every structure and system in the body, often easing or resolving pain, tension, and dysfunction whether it’s physical, emotional, or even digestive or respiratory.

So when someone says Bowen is their first choice, it’s such a lovely reminder that people are recognising how powerful gentle can be. What a beautiful way to start the day!

Buddy (my 17mo Aussie Shepherd) and I had a great day at the first Search And Rescue training day held in NSW (as far as I know outside defence force work). Phil Campbell of Loose Leads near Wellington was amazing, helping all of us dog handlers (owners) introduce new routines to our dogs that we can integrate to training at home. It all builds trust, loyalty and bond with our dogs - I know because Buddy and I have practised what day 1 involves before, and I’m so looking forward to and what subsequent training delivers at day 2 and beyond.

Just like Bowen Therapy and other healing modalities, you don’t get the results if you don’t put the suggestions into practice. Buddy is a testament to that. We’ve been practicing these exercises for the last 2 months or so, and Buddy has excelled in them today, and I know he will just nail every more advanced exercise he’ll be faced with tomorrow. So proud of my furbaby, and so chuffed we’re both having so much fun.

Phil worked effectively with the level of each dog and owner so that everyone felt like they were an absolute winner and could brag about their dog today. There was everything to Belgian Malinois to Corgis, from advanced SAR and security dogs to absolute beginners, and their equivalent trainers. He gave us all ideas on what our dogs would respond to best in future SAR training. From my experience this is THE best training for improving a dog’s “with me” focus and obedience, and I’m expecting Buddy’s to leap out of the ground tomorrow. So much learned and integrated today there’s no more brain space for shenanigans tonight. Can’t wait for tomorrow!

Did you know all your red blood cells are replaced every six weeks? That means if you make a change to your diet, exercise, or hydration, stick with it consistently for six weeks to really notice the difference. Small, steady actions really do add up!

This weekend reminded me why taking responsibility for your own health is so important. A client developed severe lower back pain, with nerve pain down her legs. She saw her doctor and booked an MRI, but the pain became unbearable over the weekend and she ended up in hospital.

By the time she came to see me on Monday, she could barely walk and was in distress. Ninety minutes later, she left smiling, almost pain-free, walking with hardly a limp. Pain levels dropped from 10–15/10 to 2–5/10.

The following week, her MRI results and doctor’s appointment took all of two minutes. No questions, no real examination—just a referral for a cortisone injection.

This case shows us a few things: pain doesn’t always correlate with pathology, and pathology doesn’t always mean pain. Medical science is clever, but it has its limits. Taking responsibility for your comfort and health matters. This lady did—and it made all the difference.

We just had a brilliant weekend in Dubbo with some wonderful Bowen Therapists, diving deep into The Perfect Touch and Bowen, Biofields & Beyond. It was inspiring to share this amazing technique with such a passionate group. Thank you to everyone who travelled so far and helped make the weekend so fun, rich, and full of learning. It was a joy to welcome you to our home!

When people hear “arthritis” they often imagine something permanent, painful and unstoppable. But the truth is a bit different. Arthritis is joint inflammation. What X-rays show are changes in the bone, like little spurs or narrowing of the joint space. The inflammation is the body’s way of coping with how muscles and nerves incorrectly move the joint over time. The resulting changes in the bones is the body’s way of adapting to stress and incorrect loading forces.

Pain often comes from movement patterns, muscle firing or nervous system tension, not from the X-ray changes themselves. With gentle therapies like Bowen Therapy, movement retraining and nervous system support, it’s often possible to reduce pain and improve how the joint functions. Your X-ray is a map, not a sentence, and pain is often unnecessary.

I was looking at a bag of dried cat food the other day. On the front it proudly said “32% protein” and “expert pet nutrition”. Then I read the ingredients list, and wheat and corn were listedin the top four.

Cats are obligate carnivores. They simply don’t have the enzymes to break down carbs, fibre or sugars. Their food should be close to 100% protein. When we feed them grains, it doesn’t just pass through. It creates inflammation and drains energy that should be going into keeping them healthy.

It made me smile at the label, but also stop and think that if “expert nutrition” can miss something so basic about cats, where else are we being sold ideas that don’t line up with how the body actually works?

What do you think - have you ever discovered advice that just didn’t sit right once you dug into the science (or your own experience)?

We often think of Bowen Therapy as something for individuals, but what about whole teams?

One Australian corporation discovered something remarkable when they introduced monthly Bowen sessions for their workforce. Despite having the oldest workforce of all their 40 sites across the country, this site achieved:
- Highest productivity increases in 2 of 4 years
- Lowest accident rate 3 years running
- Fewest sick days for 2 years straight

Employees reported less pain, more energy, stronger immunity, fewer disputes, and better relationships at work and home. Even workplace injuries and workers’ comp claims dropped dramatically.

All from a simple, short Bowen treatment each month.

When people feel better in their bodies, they work better too.
Now that’s good for business and good for people.

Helping people, one person at a time

A Bowen Clinic ... and other journeys provides pain relief and improved health through Bowen Therapy, Equine Muscle Release Therapy, the Egoscue Method and other alternative modalities. I work with both people and horses in Dubbo and the surrounding area.

Often getting people who have “tried everything and nothing works”, I get some people in who have been in severe pain for a very long time. After a course of treatments, most of the time they get a great result, in which the person achieves their goals or better, and I don’t see them again. Sometimes people find that they benefit from a regular treatment every fortnight or month to manage their condition. Very occasionally Bowen does not seem to assist much at all, and I shall refer on or work in conjunction with other alternative therapists to support my customer.

I am continually searching for and researching different ways to help my patients, as my goal is to heal the cause of the problem so that the issue does not return. It is sometimes surprising how a debilitatingly painful and long-term problem, that has developed over many many years and you would expect to take a long time to get better, may resolve within two or three weeks.

Look forward to helping you.
