Such an important reminder of why the NDIS exists. When people receive the right supports, their wellbeing, independence, and participation naturally grow.

For so many participants, accessing the NDIS is a genuine turning point. We see this every day in Behaviour Support: when people have the tools, strategies and services they need, they’re not just “using funding”… they’re building skills, strengthening relationships, improving safety, and increasing their ability to engage in work, community and everyday life.

It’s easy for public conversations to focus on costs, but research like this highlights the real story — the NDIS is an investment in people’s lives, and the benefits ripple far beyond the Scheme itself.

This is exactly why quality, evidence‑based supports matter. When it's right, people thrive. 💚

New analysis by the e61 Institute, which tracks NDIS participants over more than a decade, finds substantial improvements to their workforce participation and self-reported energy levels within four years of accessing the taxpayer-funded scheme.

🌿 Supporting Emotional Regulation After a Big Day 🌿

One of our little legends has been working hard on understanding big feelings — especially those tricky moments after a long day out, when the world feels loud, busy, and exhausting.

For many children, walking through the front door at the end of the day isn’t the “relaxing moment” adults imagine. It’s often when the overwhelm catches up. We call this the after‑school collapse — when a child finally feels safe enough to let all those built‑up emotions show.

Instead of pushing through tasks straight away, we’ve been building a gentle emotional regulation routine that helps them:
✨ recognise what they’re feeling
✨ choose a calming activity
✨ reconnect with their body
✨ feel settled before moving on to the rest of the afternoon

Sometimes the best thing we can do is slow down first, not speed up.
A snack and a quiet corner.
A visual choice board.
A favourite sensory tool.
A few moments of connection with someone who “gets it.”

When we meet kids where they’re at — not where we think they “should” be — we see huge shifts: calmer afternoons, more confidence, and skills that will keep growing with them over time. 💚

Emotional regulation isn’t about doing jobs faster…
It’s about helping young people feel safe enough to try.

🌟 Gold Coast — We’re Ready to Support More Participants

At Aurora Behaviour Support, we know that meaningful behaviour support starts with understanding each participant’s story — your skills, strengths, routines, preferences, and the environments around you.

Every referral is more than a request for a Behaviour Support Plan. It’s a chance to help someone experience:

• smoother transitions (new homes, school changes, hospital to home)
• clearer communication that reduces frustration
• practical, everyday strategies that increase independence
• support that upholds human rights and reduces restrictive practices
• a team who works with your support network, not around it

We’re expanding our capacity on the Gold Coast, and we’re ready to welcome new participants who would benefit from:

• Functional Behaviour Assessments
• Interim Behaviour Support Plans
• Collaborative work with participants, Support Coordinators, families, and providers
• Compatibility assessments and transition planning
• Skill-building strategies that create safer, calmer, more predictable days

👉 If you’re a participant, carer, family member, Support Coordinator or provider on the Gold Coast, we’d love to connect.

You can reach us anytime through our website www.aurorabehaviour.com.au

Let’s work together to create positive, long-term outcomes. 💛

🌟 At Aurora Behaviour Support, every small step forward matters 🌟

Positive Behaviour Support isn’t just about reducing behaviours of concern — it’s about building skills, confidence, and opportunities for people to thrive in their own way.

This week, our team has been working alongside participants, families, and support staff across Dubbo, the Gold Coast, and Casino to understand why behaviours occur and what the person is trying to communicate.

By completing Functional Behaviour Assessments and developing practical, human centred strategies, we’re seeing amazing progress — from smoother morning routines, to calmer transitions, to more independence at home and in the community. 💛

Our focus is always on:
✨ Strength building
✨ Replacing risky behaviours with meaningful skills
✨ Respecting human rights
✨ Reducing and fading restrictive practices
✨ Creating safe, supported environments that set people up for success

Every plan we write is individual, strengths based, and grounded in real life outcomes. And we love seeing the positive changes our participants experience when everyone in their support network works together.

Here’s to another week of celebrating progress, big and small. 🌿

If you're looking for Behaviour Support that feels human, warm, and truly collaborative — we’re here. 💛

How are you spending Australia Day?

Today is Australia Day, and our Aurora Behaviour Support offices are closed for the public holiday.

This Australia Day, the community is encouraged to Reflect, Respect and Celebrate our nation and our people – especially our strong sense of community.

We acknowledge that this day means different things to different people, and we respect all perspectives.

At Aurora, we remain committed to inclusion, dignity, and person-centred support to people with disability.

Wishing everyone a safe and respectful day.

Positive Behaviour Support is all about helping people live their best lives by understanding why behaviours happen and finding better ways to meet those needs.

Here’s what PBS means in simple terms:

• Understand the “why” – Every behaviour has a reason. We look at what the person is trying to communicate or achieve.

• Focus on strengths – We build on what the person can do and what matters to them.

• Teach new skills – Instead of just stopping a behaviour, we teach positive alternatives that work better.

• Respect and dignity – PBS is about human rights, choice, and making sure people feel safe and valued.

• Work together – Participants, families, support workers, and professionals all collaborate to create a plan that really works.

The goal?
To reduce behaviours of concern and increase quality of life —because everyone deserves to feel understood and supported.

👉 Tell us — what do you appreciate about Positive Behaviour Support? Drop it in the comments, and follow our page if you’d like more practical PBS ideas in your feed.
