If you could go back in time and change one decision or one action, what would it be?
Think about it for a minute – of all the choices you have made over your life, which one do you think would have impacted you the most?
Bask for a moment, in all the positive things that would have flowed from making that different choice.
Now turn your attention to all those equally positive things that would not have happened.
You are not even touching on the bad things that also might have happened as a result of that change.
So, I have a confession.
I have been watching a TV series about two groups of people who have been hopping backwards and forwards through time, one group trying to change history and the other trying to preserve it – and then all the consequences in the present because of their tinkering.
Life isn’t science fiction though. No matter how you might want to, you cannot change the past – but even if you could, it would just create an alternate past. If you don’t like where you are still, what do you do? Go back and change something else?
What a relief that you cannot do that! The past is past.
Yet why do you get so distracted by it, instead of being wholly present? Whilst you can learn from the past, you can only ever be in the present.
Take some time to just sit, preferably somewhere outside where you can feel the elements, hear the bird sounds, and just be.
Notice what is around you, notice what you are curious about that is present with you.
Sense into your body, noticing, but not trying to change your breath.
Just be.
