Today was my last day for 2025 working in Baan Baa and Boggabri, North West NSW. It was a hot 39 degrees working in the shade of an Ash tree with "Shazza".

This mare had a well deserved bodywork session after achieving her personal best of 18 seconds at the 2025 Australian Barrel Horse Association National Finals held at AELEC in Tamworth last month.

A big shout out and thank you to all my clients in this region for your business 🙏 I wish you all a safe and Merry Christmas 🎅.

"Stillness Speaks" 🐴 Like a lot of my clients, the owner of this stallion knows the second she hops on and walks off if something is amiss.

An an Equine Body Therapist this makes my job a little easier to work out where the tension lies. However, I still need to "read the air" to find the unspoken word or mood of the horse and rider.

This is where "stillness speaks" comes into play. As I work with the horse, I need to watch for the breath that finally let's go, the soft eye, the flick of the ear, wrinkle of the nose, or the ever so slight shift in body weight that tells me the horse is feeling the change and they are ok.

There is a saying by Emelie Cajsdotter "horses love being seen, being heard, feeling felt and getting gotten". I believe this statement forms part of my role as an Equine Body Therapist to ensure that the horse feels safe as I work with them and that they are truly seen, genuinely heard, deeply felt and fully understood by me.

After bodywork session cuddles with Stanley - I so love my job 🥰

Well this week was nothing short of hectic! Early morning starts, working in 40 degree heat, dealing with thunderstorms in the afternoon, getting home late, all for the love of horses 😂 🐴

Thank you to my Hunter Valley clients this week in Maitland Vale, Hillsborough, Sawyers Gully, Bishops Bridge, Doyles Creek and Scone 🙏🐎

No time for me to take happy snaps, this photo is courtesy of Pixabay 😉 #

Bodywork can mean a bunch of different things to people. Some of my clients are looking for the 1-5% difference in their horses as they are in the competition phase of their horse journey.

While others have noticed their horse feels different under saddle but can't work out why. Or clients are just looking for a smoother ride, as they are tired of their horse resisting when asked to go to the right, refusing a jump or seeing and feeling a dropped shoulder on the left circle.

These are just some of the scenarios I am faced with every week.

If you can relate to any of the above, your horse is showing you "I have tension in my body, please help me". Resistance to do something is often the horse trying to protect themselves from either pain or restriction.

So as a rider/owner I'm going to ask you a few questions:

▶️ Do you know if your horse is showing you willingness or resistance?
▶️ Do you know if your horse is sensitive or stoic?
▶️ Do you notice the flick of their ear or shuffle of their feet to get comfortable?
▶️ Do you notice the quiver of their wither or girth region when you saddle up?
▶️ How loud does your horse have to communicate with you for you to notice you may have an issue?

I'm hoping as you answer these questions and reflect on my post, it will make you think, "what have my rides been like lately".

As we head into the last of our competitions, the last of our clinics, or riding in general, as we enter our summer, think about giving your horse a bodywork session, so they can rest and recover with a relaxed and comfortable body.

For bookings contact me (Sarah) on 0427 676 226 or send me a message and your horse will thank you 🐎

Thank you everyone, I have had a blast this week working in the Hunter Valley. I have serviced the areas of Wattle Ponds, Sedgefield, Whittingham, Sawyers Gully, Bishops Bridge and Maitland Vale covering a wide range of disciplines.

So lovely to hear your stories, seeing the progress in your horses and working out the cause of mystery lameness issues, or unwanted behaviours 🐎 ♥️
