How to teach high-frequency words
All words are decodable including high-frequency words with irregular spellings. In the past, we may have called them 'sight words' or 'tricky words' and taught children to memorise them by sight.
Now we know that is it important to teach children to decode them not only so that can read them, but so that they can apply their orthographic mapping skills to new words.
