I see this a lot with women. That quiet pressure to always be doing something. Using the spare five minutes, getting ahead, staying on top of everything. And on the surface it looks like you’re managing it all… but underneath, it can feel constant.

The thing is, not every moment needs to be productive. When you fill every gap, you leave no room to reset, think clearly, or just be in your day. And over time, that’s what makes everything feel heavier than it needs to.

Creating space is about not needing to use every second so efficiently. Letting a few moments be unstructured. Letting your mind switch off, even briefly. That’s where more clarity, calm and capacity start to come in.

If this is something you’ve been feeling, it’s exactly the kind of work I support women with in my 1:1 sessions - creating more space in a way that actually fits your life.

Simple ways to create more space in your day...

When your mind feels full, everything feels harder.

When there’s space, things begin to flow
Small shifts can change how your whole day feels.

Take a moment today to ask yourself:
Where could I create a little more space?

Start there.

Spending time with the Radiance mums recently - creating space for connection, creativity and wellbeing. These moments matter.
Not just for the babies, but for the mothers too.

The early stages of motherhood can be full of love, but also adjustment, identity shifts and emotional load. Spaces like this offer something simple but powerful...connection, support and a chance to pause.

Grateful to be involved in work that supports mothers in our community in such a meaningful way 🤍

(And always a bonus to have it paired with baby smiles.)

Capacity is the missing conversation in high-performing women.

In my work with women - particularly those running businesses, leading teams, or balancing professional and family responsibilities - I often notice that ambition isn’t the problem, and capability certainly isn’t either. What’s often overlooked is capacity. Many high-performing women plan from what they believe they should be able to hold, rather than from what their nervous system can sustainably manage.

When emotional load and cognitive demand are already high, adding more pressure doesn’t create meaningful growth. It tends to create depletion. Burnout is rarely about a lack of motivation; more often, it’s the result of operating beyond bandwidth for too long without recovery. In psychology, we talk about regulation, rhythm and realistic load, not just productivity. Sustainable success is built on steadiness, not constant acceleration.

It’s a conversation I believe we need more of in professional spaces -particularly for women who are used to carrying a great deal, often quietly.

I’m curious... how often do you assess your capacity before committing to your next goal?

There’s often uncertainty about what working with a psychologist really looks like.

It isn’t simply talking about problems. It’s understanding patterns. It’s slowing down enough to notice what your nervous system is doing when stress builds. It’s identifying the beliefs and habits that quietly shape your reactions. And then it’s building practical tools so you feel more equipped outside the therapy room, not just inside it.

My work blends clinical psychology, positive psychology and nervous system education because insight alone isn’t enough. People need steadiness. They need clarity. They need skills that translate into everyday life.

Therapy should feel grounding, not overwhelming. Structured, but human.
If you’ve been wondering whether support might help, this is how we begin.

At this time of year, many people are reassessing what they want to achieve. But in psychology, I often start somewhere different.

Before we ask, “What should I aim for?” we ask, “What is my current capacity?”
Capacity isn’t about motivation. It’s about emotional bandwidth, nervous system load, and cognitive energy. When we ignore those realities and push forward anyway, we create cycles of guilt and burnout. When we respect them, growth becomes steadier and more sustainable.

Progress built on pressure rarely lasts. Progress built on realistic capacity often does.

This is a conversation I’m having often with women and parents right now.

In psychology, we don’t start with ambition. We start with capacity.

Your nervous system has limits. When you push beyond them for too long, you don’t become more productive - you become depleted. Sustainable wellbeing is built by working with your capacity, not against it.

In my 1:1 sessions, this is where we begin:
• What can you realistically hold right now?
• What needs to shift?
• What support is missing?

If 2026 already feels full - let’s build steadier foundations.

Some high-performing children aren’t driven by ambition. They’re driven by responsibility.

They notice expectations.
They sense moods.
They work hard to “keep things steady.”

From the outside, it looks like confidence.
Internally, it can feel like pressure to hold everything together.

In sessions, we focus on helping these children:

• separate identity from achievement
• tolerate mistakes without shame
• build internal safety, not just external success

Because sustainable confidence isn’t built on being impressive.
It’s built on feeling secure.

If you’re raising a capable, high-achieving child, early emotional support makes a real difference.

When families reach out, the focus is often on one young person.

But emotional wellbeing doesn’t live in one person - it lives in relationships.

When we support parents alongside children or teens, we build steadier foundations. Not quick fixes. Not reactive cycles. Sustainable change.

This is the heart of family-based work.

If this approach resonates, I welcome you to reach out.

Before setting new goals, it can be helpful to pause and gently ask: What is my capacity right now?

Many women plan from ambition - from the part of them that wants to grow, achieve and hold everything together. But when emotional load and cognitive demand are already high, adding more pressure doesn’t create progress. It often creates exhaustion.

Sustainable growth begins with understanding your nervous system, not overriding it.

This is a shift I support many women to make in session - working with your capacity rather than pushing against it.

If that resonates, I’d love to support you. 🤍

In psychology, we don’t ask “What’s wrong with you?”. We ask, “What happened and what did you learn to do to survive it?”

Most emotional patterns begin as intelligent adaptations. They helped you cope. Over time, however, they may no longer serve you. It’s about understanding what shaped you and gently creating new options.

If you’re ready to understand your patterns in a grounded, evidence-informed way, I offer 1:1 sessions for women, parents and young people across the South West.

You can reach me via my website.
