Meet Sarah, one of our dedicated paediatric occupational therapists at Icaria Health.
She’s recently completed targeted professional development in two key areas: toileting and sleep—skills many of our young participants are currently working toward.

Better outcomes for children with cerebral palsy start with better-informed clinicians.

On World Cerebral Palsy Day, we’re proud to spotlight Mikayla, one of our Physiotherapists, who is currently completing the Advancing Skills in Paediatric Physiotherapy – Cerebral Palsy course through Monash University.

Already a quarter of the way through, Mikayla is bringing her learnings back to our team — sharing insights during discipline-specific team time. Her training spans embryology, risk factors, movement disorders, hip surveillance, gait correction, and the complexities of transitioning from paediatric to adult services.

💚 Today we celebrate the strength and progress of people with cerebral palsy — helping shape better care for children and families at every stage of life.

Holly, one of our Physiotherapists, recently completed the internationally recognised Explain Pain course with Noigroup !

This training expands her expertise in pain science - understanding how pain connects the body, brain, and nervous system. With this knowledge, Holly increased her skills in helping people make sense of their pain and take charge of recovery.

At Icaria, we are committed to growing our team's knowledge so we can deliver the highest quality therapies to our community.

Rural health needs rural expertise—and Meg and Sabrina are stepping up.

They’re currently completing their diploma in Rural Generalist practice through JCU supported by SARRAH, a national initiative that supports allied health professionals working in rural and remote communities.

Meg and Sabrina’s involvement means better rural and regional access, stronger advocacy, and more tailored support for our communities in Holbrook and surrounds and Berrigan shire. Because where you live shouldn’t determine the quality of care you receive.

At Icaria Health, we’re committed to investing in our therapists, because when they grow, our community benefits.

Marcus, our new graduate Occupational Therapist, recently completed professional development in 24-hour postural management.
He shared his insights with the team during our New Grad Time session, covering:
▪The importance of postural care across the full day and night
▪The 5 P’s for success in MAT assessments
▪Strategies to improve comfort, function, and long-term outcomes

His training also explored seating and positioning technology, from initial assessment to final equipment prescription. The course focused on hands-on techniques, biomechanics, and translating clinical findings into effective product choices. It also strengthened critical thinking and documentation skills, especially around selecting seat cushions and back supports using a clinical and scientific approach.

We’re proud to support our team’s growth so they can deliver the highest quality support.

It’s small, simple, and probably sitting in your kitchen right now - It's impact on child development is anything but ordinary.

At Icaria Health, we know that meaningful play doesn’t need to come from expensive toys. It can begin with something as everyday as a cup. With a little imagination, cups become towers to build, drums to tap, homes for tiny toys, or tools for colour-matching adventures.

Cups help children develop fine motor skills through grasping, pouring, stacking, and tilting. They also encourage social interaction and communication through turn-taking and guessing games. Along the way, children explore important concepts and target words like: look, fill up, build, empty/full, big/little, in, out, my turn, your turn, pour, push, tip.

Cups are proof that you don’t need fancy toys to create meaningful, therapeutic play. Add a bowl or box to extend the fun even further.
