Is your under-16-year old ready for the social media ban? 👨🏽💻🤳
From Wednesday 10 December, the Australian Government will introduce a ban preventing children under 16 from using major social platforms including TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, Snapchat and more.
Many young people may be feeling unsure about how they’ll stay connected or what life will look like without their usual online spaces.
Here are 5 screen-free ways to help your young person stay engaged and thriving this summer:
🌳 Get active at East Fremantle Community Park
Encourage them to take up a new hobby like bike riding, skateboarding or basketball. The Town will host East Fremantle Street Jam on Saturday 10 January - join in the fun!
📞 Stay connected the old-school way
Encourage kids to swap phone numbers so they can stay in touch via text or WhatsApp.
📚 Discover the magic of libraries
The Town invests in the Fremantle Library so residents can experience a treasure trove of imagination - from a gaming zone to events (and plenty of great books!).
🌿 Explore nature
Walk the Niergarup Track at Merv Cowan Reserve or spend a day fishing on the river.
🗣️ Keep the conversation open
This is a big change for young people. Regular chats can make a huge difference.
