Meet Sarah Phoenix – Director & Co-Founder

👋 Hi, I’m Sarah Phoenix (she/her)
📍 Role: Director & Co-Founder of Careworks
⏳ With the team since: founding Careworks with Karen in January 2021.

💬 Favourite part of my role: I love hearing people’s stories and discovering what makes them tick. Every participant and team member brings something unique, and I really value being part of building support that genuinely fits.

💙 Supporting participants means: For me, supporting participants means creating the kind of support I would want for my own family — respectful, thoughtful and centred around the person’s strengths. It’s about walking alongside someone, not directing them, and making sure they feel safe, valued and empowered.

🌸 International Women’s Day 2026
Today, we recognise the women who lead, support, advocate and care in our workplaces and communities.
This year’s theme, Give to Gain, reminds us that when we support, uplift and empower one another, the impact reaches far.
To the incredible women in our team, our community and among the participants and families we work with - thank you for the care, resilience and inspiration you bring every day.

📣 March is Essential Tremor Awareness Month - Australia’s First Official Recognition 🇦🇺

This year marks a significant milestone: Australia’s first Essential Tremor Awareness Month, proudly recognised by Essential Tremor Australia - the national patient advocacy organisation launched in October 2025.

Essential Tremor (or ET) is a neurological condition that causes involuntary shaking, most commonly in the hands, but also in the head, voice and other parts of the body. It’s the most common movement disorder, yet remains widely misunderstood. Many people mistake it for being “nerves” or even Parkinson’s - but it is very different.

ET isn’t life-threatening, but it can be life-altering - affecting everyday tasks like writing, eating, holding a cup, or using a phone. Over time, symptoms can vary or gradually worsen, and the condition can impact confidence, independence and quality of life.

As the peak patient advocacy group for the 300,000+ Australians living with ET, Essential Tremor Australia exists to:

✨ Raise awareness and reduce stigma
🤝 Connect people living with ET, their families, carers and health professionals
📣 Advocate for better recognition, care and support across Australia
📘 Provide trusted information and practical support to live well with ET

For many Australians, getting a diagnosis can be challenging and isolating - but no one should navigate this alone. Awareness helps improve understanding, early recognition, access to supports, and the confidence to talk about ET openly.

This March, join us in sharing stories, resources and facts - so that all Australians understand what Essential Tremor is, and how we can support each other 💚

💻 Behind the scenes at our office…
While our team is out supporting participants in the community, a lot of important work is happening here too - coordinating rosters, updating plans, responding to enquiries and making sure everything runs smoothly.
It might not be visible, but it all helps our participants receive the right support, at the right time, with the right people.
