📣 March is Essential Tremor Awareness Month - Australia’s First Official Recognition 🇦🇺
This year marks a significant milestone: Australia’s first Essential Tremor Awareness Month, proudly recognised by Essential Tremor Australia - the national patient advocacy organisation launched in October 2025.
Essential Tremor (or ET) is a neurological condition that causes involuntary shaking, most commonly in the hands, but also in the head, voice and other parts of the body. It’s the most common movement disorder, yet remains widely misunderstood. Many people mistake it for being “nerves” or even Parkinson’s - but it is very different.
ET isn’t life-threatening, but it can be life-altering - affecting everyday tasks like writing, eating, holding a cup, or using a phone. Over time, symptoms can vary or gradually worsen, and the condition can impact confidence, independence and quality of life.
As the peak patient advocacy group for the 300,000+ Australians living with ET, Essential Tremor Australia exists to:
✨ Raise awareness and reduce stigma
🤝 Connect people living with ET, their families, carers and health professionals
📣 Advocate for better recognition, care and support across Australia
📘 Provide trusted information and practical support to live well with ET
For many Australians, getting a diagnosis can be challenging and isolating - but no one should navigate this alone. Awareness helps improve understanding, early recognition, access to supports, and the confidence to talk about ET openly.
This March, join us in sharing stories, resources and facts - so that all Australians understand what Essential Tremor is, and how we can support each other 💚
