If you are undergoing this treatment here is what I have found helpful.

✅ïļ Products
During your treatment put all your normal skincare away, even cleansing.

I used Vaseline as a barrier for lips, eyes and nostrils during application.

During the healing phase I found Bepanthen very soothing during the day and also a great anti-bacterial, if the skin is broken.

To moisturise I used Aspect Dr Redless and Nutrimetics Nutri-rich oil at night. Both legendary healing products but you could stick with Bepanthen.

For sunscreen I used my absolute favourite brand Airyday Pretty in Zinc.
Remember to only use a physical, zinc based sunscreen and test patch as inferior brands can sting.

Day 10 and I think the worst is over. ðŸĢ
The next phase will be the peeling of the destroyed and dead skin cells.

This is damage I did in the 80s (I'm now 55) and for the past 35 years I have been very careful of UV exposure and religiously applied SPF but the skin NEVER FORGETS. 🐘

2000 Australians die of skin cancer every year plus tens of thousands leave it too late and have to get big chunks of flesh cut out.

Skin cancer is totally preventable if you take precautiins and caught early.
Remind someone you love. âĪïļ

2 Days into the recovery stage.

I'm posting these videos as many people have told me they are afraid to do this treatment or keep putting it off. ðŸŦķ

Honestly, I've had more painful chemical peels and unfortunately this is a treatment most Australians over the age of 50 will need to do.

☀ïļ You may like to share this with the teenagers in your life, to show the consequences of a sun loving youth.

I chose to do this treatment as the alternative is skin cancer in the future- no-brainer really.

ðŸĨĩ I'm entering the worst phase of the Flurouracil treatment and feeling grumpy, sore and sorry for myself.

Day 5 (Day 1 of recovery) is brutal but worth the inconvenience to prevent skin cancer from forming.

A Solar Keratosis (also known as actinic keratosis) is considered pre-cancerous leison.

They look like a red or pink or brown, rough, scaly patch of skin.

While not cancer they have the potential to develop into a squamous cell carcinoma: so early treatment is crucial.

Most at risk are people over 40 with fair skin.

This is your sign to get your skin checked. ☀ïļ

How to apply Fluoroucel / Calcipotriol.
📌 Wash area with lukewarm water (no product)
📌 Pat and leave to completely dry
📌 Wear gloves
📌 Apply a barrier cream to eyes, lips and nostrils ( I used vaseline)
📌 Apply a thin layer of the cream
📌 Apply morning and night around the same time
Make sure you apply 2 hours before bedtime so it is completely absorbed by your skin and not your pillow.

Repeat for 4 days.

Your skin NEVER forgets! 🐘

A single over exposure to UV can damage the DNA of a skin cell.

It can take many decades for that damage to progress into a visible skin cancer. ☀ïļ

Perth, Western Australia has one if the highest UV indexes in the world, so we need to be extra careful.

I am 55 and damage fom the 80's is now beginning to show.

🌟 Topical Chemotherapy comes in different forms and is the common treatment for solar (actnic keratosis (a pre-cancerous leison that can progress to squamous cell carcinoma. (SCC)

The treatment destroys these damaged cells, both visible and those lurking beneath the surface.

ðŸ’Ĩ With 2000 Australians dying of preventable skin cancer every year, I've decided to share my journey. I know it's going to be a rough couple of weeks.

Efudix and Torak are a few brand names but the protocol is usually application for 2 to 4 weeks and 2 to 4 weeks healing post application.

Of course, I wanted to shorten the downtime and still get the best results.

The 4 day protocol combines the main ingredient Fluorouracil combined with Calcipotriol (a Vitamin D derivative) and used for only 4 days with expected 1 to 2 week healing phase.

In Australia this combination needs to be compounded.

Unlike traditional treatments this short course induces a faster, more intense immune response.
