📖 Looking for the perfect holiday read? 📖
We love these books that have fantastic disability rep.
Authentic representation in books, film and TV matters. When people with disability shape their own stories, harmful stereotypes are challenged, and diverse perspectives are normalised.
Since fiction is a powerful way to embrace representation, we wanted to highlight some of the best representations of disability that we’ve seen in fiction, across multiple genres, including:
📕 How Lucky by Will Leitch - an entertaining read following Daniel, who lives with SMA, as he endeavors to solve a mystery.
📘 Into The Drowning Deep by Mira Grant - a horror novel that represents multiple disabilities including including autism, chronic pain, prosthetic limbs and deafness.
📙 Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros - a fantasy romance following Violet, who lives with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, as she becomes a dragon rider at a military college.
📗 Knot My Type by Evie Mitchell - a swoon worthy contemporary romance following Frankie (wheelchair user and podcast host!)
📘 The Drowning Girl by Caitlin Rebekah Kiernan - a fantasy horror novel following Imp, who lives with schizophrenia as she explores what is and isn’t real.
