🏆 NSW HEALTH VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR 🏆

Congratulations to Ryde Hospital volunteer Diane McPhail, who has been named the Volunteer of the Year at the 2025 NSW Health Awards.

Diane was recognised for her remarkable contribution to Ryde Hospital, where she supports patients, mentors consumer advisors, and helps improve the overall care experience.

A true role model for volunteering, Diane is known for her warmth, leadership, and tireless commitment to making a difference. She gives her time across many areas of the hospital, including assisting patients, contributing to staff education, and supporting sustainability and redevelopment initiatives.

🎗️FIONA’S FROCKTOBER FUNDRAISER🎗️

Staff at Ryde Hospital have come together to honour their much-loved colleague Fiona Thorn, raising more than $4,000 for ovarian cancer research through Fiona’s Frocktober 2025 fundraiser.

The initiative, led by Ryde Hospital Change Manager Lisa Steele, supports the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation and aims to improve early detection of the “silent killer” disease.

💊 HAPPY WORLD PHARMACISTS DAY! 💊

Today, 25 September, we celebrate World Pharmacists Day and honour the incredible contributions of pharmacists worldwide.

This year’s theme, “Think Health, Think Pharmacist,” highlights the vital role pharmacists play in keeping patients safe and supporting global health.

Across NSLHD, pharmacists work in wards, dispensaries, policy, digital systems and community settings. They collaborate with doctors, nurses and allied health teams to manage complex therapies, prevent medication errors, and educate patients about safe medication use.

Thank you to all pharmacists — you make a difference every single day.

💖 STITCHING KINDNESS FOR CARERS THIS CARERS WEEK 💖

Ahead of Carers Week (12-18 October), staff are joining a drop-in stitch circle to create felt hearts for patient carers– an act of kindness honouring those who support our patients every step of the way.

The bright little felt hearts are part of the global 1000 Hearts kindness movement, offering comfort and support to carers across northern Sydney.

“Just a few stitches can create a beautiful gift that reminds carers they are valued,” says Barbara Lewis, Carer Support Service Manager.

For Heidi, whose husband was critically ill in RNSH ICU, receiving a heart “gave me goosebumps… it’s like it’s glowing.”

Over 130,000 unpaid carers in northern Sydney support loved ones daily—these hearts show they are seen, supported, and never alone.
