I’ve been a little quiet on the airwaves lately. I started a new job setting up the reimagined cafe at called it’s been a busy 8 weeks getting ready for the Easter trade. The farm work has taken a back seat lately but I’m planning on getting the beds ready for some planting this week.
The shade house is a mess so getting there to pull out the mountain of weeds is a priority!
You can pop into the Terrace for a pot of tea and a chat about farm progress and plans. Workshops will be scheduled for Spring, there will also be some farm working bee days organised with a delicious meal and great company coming up in preparation.

This gorgeous little blue banded bee has been popping in to visit the nepeta I planted in our entry garden regularly.

I haven’t posted in a while as I’ve been busy with a new work project but at the weather changes I’ll be bed forming and getting ready for spring planting on the farm.

I’m excited my passiflora incarnata gifted from Marleen herbs has had its first flowers.

The last stop on our herb tour was a wonderful 1 1/2 days spent with the incredible Van der Winkel family. Again a common thread of generous spirit and warm family hospitality greeted us each day. It’s encouraging to see our herbal farmer elders give so much of their knowledge and enthusiasm to the future farmers. Succession is at the forefront of family plans with Emma’s at Marleen Herbs farm that will be opening some time in 2026 so everyone will be able to experience this magical place.

Emma is making a little known (in Aus) ancient tree medicine called Gemmotherapy, by harnessing the buds of the new emerging spring growth. It’s powerful medicine and she treats every tree with a gentleness that is sometimes lost in this hectic world. Her creams are made on site with the herbs grown on the farm and work a treat.

Now I’ve landed back home with new enthusiasm for the autumn planting, I have made some new friends and seen what is possible. Big shout out to Twiggy for bringing us together, .ille.potts for support and if you haven’t listened to .elder.tree podcast, you should

Day 2 on our herbie road trip through Lutruwita and this stop with the formidable duo

Wow, such beautiful generous souls, it was an absolute pleasure and privilege to be able to spend the day learning and observing all of the hard work that has gone into developing their property.

We were lucky to have a delicious lunch to share and a decadent chocky cake that perked us up for the afternoon.

The day finished with a paddle in the river with the added bonus of a visit from the resident platypus. It’s back to our new digs for the night and another shared feast.

Day 1 of our Lutruwita farm tour started with a trip to Goulds farm. What an honor to spend the day with Greg Whitten and his hard working team. It was a full day and I will be forever grateful for the openness and generosity of information shared with us.

After the farm we headed back into Hobart for an apothecary tour and to see and sample the end result of the work done on the farm.

I’ll put my thoughts down on paper once I digest the info, it’s a lot! Day two kicks off and we are on to the next farm with fellow travelers on the .elder.tree herb farm tour

It’s been a while between posts for me, we are finally full time at the farm. The house build has finished and the unpacking will take months. I’m looking forward to settling into life in Eldorado and establishing the farm for you to visit.

But first …..Exciting times!! I’m off on a trip to Lutruwita with 8 other herbies from all over Aus.

Shout out to Twiggy .elder.tree and Lucille for their exceptional organising, it’s got to be like harvesting seeds in a tornado!

Stay tuned for other peoples farm spam for the next 5 days as I gather plenty of inspiration and wisdom from some pretty amazing folks.

Planning is such an important part of developing the property. It has a lot of heavy lifting to do supporting our family.

Our main infrastructure projects are almost completed. First shed that will become the dual purpose apothecary and herb drying area is built and the house will be complete at the end of October, the rest is a 3 - 5 year project with emphasis on establishing our income production products so we can start reimagining what our contribution to not only our own local community but that of the wider herb growing community is.

Part of this will be creating a space for education and inspiration, showing you don’t need a lot of land to have a meaningful and sustainable herbal enterprise.

Another part for me is transparency, the highs and lows of this development, the real life struggles of what we do to ensuring we can live in a more purposeful way, and remembering to celebrate the wins!

For now it’s head down bum up getting to the finish line of the house build and starting a priority list for each project in the plan…..

Exciting times at the herb farm. The shed is up and I can finally pull all of the herb drying racks and screeding table out of storage ready for the end of summer harvest.

This shed will become my interim apothecary all things herbs space until I can build the long term space that has a little more character. Funds are tight with the house build, shed build and everything else you need for an off grid life, my little sanctuary space will have to wait for a bit but I’m thankful to have this space to work from for now.

I’ve been busy moving a lot of dirt lately, or should I say mud!

The future herb garden is under construction with the design based on the Celtic five fold knot, I want you to explore the paths and around each turn is hopefully a new discovery.

This 25m x 25m patch will be located next to the future apothecary at one side and the propagation area at another.

This garden will be home to my 400 or so medicinal herbs and plants so when you visit you will be able to see their life cycle through the seasons. The crop beds are located on another part of the property close to the creek bed.

I can’t wait to host workshops again and share this special place with you.

Took a little walk around the FarmacyCo new herb farm today, whilst it’s still a building site and the ground prep will start in the next 2 weeks.
I found some wild harvest herbs popping up in the paddock. Stinging nettle, mullein and St. John’s wort all growing wild!

There a lot to do setting up the hoop houses, digging beds, establishing compost systems and irrigation to name just a few. It’s bloody exciting to finally get started. Watch this space as I give you a glimpse of what is involved in setting up a micro herb farm from scratch.

Lillypilly Jelly — Sweet, Tart and a native wonder

Have a Lillypilly tree going wild in your garden? Don’t let those berries go to waste! Turn them into a stunning jelly that’s perfect on toast, with cheese, or as a glaze for roast meats. 🌿

How to make it:
1️⃣ Simmer 1kg berries + 1 cup water for 30 mins
2️⃣ Strain through muslin overnight
3️⃣ Measure juice, then add equal sugar + juice of 1 lemon
4️⃣ Boil 20–30 mins until it sets
5️⃣ Pour into sterilised jars + seal 🔥

💡 Also try:
✨ Shrub syrup for cocktails
✨ Fruit leather for snacks
✨ Berry vinegar for salads

I love when my Lillypilly hedge is in flower and fruiting.
