French Bulldog Size Chart (According to the Fridge) 🐾

French Bulldog owners… which one do you have? 😂

Just like humans, our pups come in all shapes and sizes — but keeping them close to their ideal weight can make a big difference for their spine and joints.

Here’s a very unofficial Frenchie size guide 👇

1️⃣ The Skinny Bean
• Waist clearly visible
• Ribs easy to feel (and sometimes slightly visible)
• Looks a little narrow through the body
• Probably burns energy like a rocket 🚀
“Will eat anything… but somehow never gains weight.”

2️⃣ The Perfect Potato
• Slight waist visible from above
• Ribs easy to feel but not visible
• Nice muscle tone
• Active and moves easily
“This is the sweet spot for happy spine & joints.”

3️⃣ The Extra Snack Model
• Waist starting to disappear
• Ribs harder to feel
• A bit of a belly forming
• Still adorable… just a bit rounder
“Exercise? I thought you said extra fries.”

4️⃣ The Absolute Unit
• No waist visible
• Belly hanging down
• Ribs difficult to feel
• Moves slower and tires easily
“Running is cancelled. We roll now.”

No judgement here — every Frenchie is PERFECT!
This post is just a bit of fun.

⚠️ 𝐌𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐝𝐨𝐠 𝐨𝐰𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐝𝐨𝐧’𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐦𝐬…

Back issues in dogs can start with very subtle signs that are easy to miss. Catching them early can make a big difference in supporting your dog’s comfort and mobility.

Here are some mild to moderate signs to watch for:
• 𝐒𝐤𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐤𝐞𝐝 𝐨𝐫 𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐝
• 𝐑𝐞𝐥𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐣𝐮𝐦𝐩, 𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐛 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐬, 𝐨𝐫 𝐠𝐞𝐭 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐫
• 𝐈𝐧𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐫 𝐨𝐜𝐜𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐰𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐮𝐩 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐚 𝐰𝐞𝐭 𝐛𝐞𝐝
• 𝐃𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐲𝐞𝐝 𝐦𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐬 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐜𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐲
• 𝐒𝐜𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐭𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐰𝐚𝐥𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐫 𝐧𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐬 𝐰𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐝𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐥𝐲

Sometimes these signs are simply temporary, but they can also be early indicators that the spine or nerves are under a bit of strain.

The good news is that early support can make a real difference in helping dogs stay comfortable and mobile as they age.

Two weeks ago (the date of the first video — corrected by his mum), Stewie was completely paralysed due to Grade 4 IVDD (Intervertebral Disc Disease). He gradually lost his ability to walk — and then his bladder control.

It was an incredibly emotional time for his family. They were heartbroken, overwhelmed, and questioning everything — even wondering if they were being cruel by continuing to fight for him. When a dog experiences paralysis and loss of bladder control, it’s quite confronting and overwhelming for any owner.

Fast forward to today — after just two treatments with us (with today being his third), Stewie WALKED into the clinic on his own. 💛
That is HUGE progress in just two weeks.

The standard veterinary protocol for IVDD is typically anti-inflammatories, pain relief, and strict crate rest, or spinal surgery.

Stewie’s rapid improvement is the result of an integrative IVDD treatment approach, combining Western veterinary medicine with Chinese medicine. We don’t rely on one method alone — we integrate targeted therapies, appropriate medication, and natural spinal support supplements to give the nervous system and spinal cord the best possible chance to heal.

For anyone currently facing IVDD, paralysis, or sudden hind limb weakness in their dog — please don’t give up. Early intervention truly matters. And even if you don’t have access to alternative hands-on treatments, combining appropriate veterinary medication with great Spinal Health supplement can significantly support recovery and mobility.

Stewie is proof that with the right treatment plan, improvement can happen — sometimes faster than you think!

Choosing a joint supplement for your dog isn’t as simple as grabbing the first one you see.
Most look the same. Most promise the same. But they are definitely not the same.

In this video, I'm sharing 5 important things to check before choosing a joint supplement — especially if your dog is slowing down, stiff after rest, or not moving like they used to.

These small details can make the difference between real support… or just expensive powder in the cupboard.

Watch the video before choosing your next joint supplement. Your dog’s mobility is too important to guess. 🐾

Dogs can react very differently to certain proteins- it’s not always a upset tummy. It could be a be a skin allergy reaction as well!

Some may develop digestive upset like loose stools, vomiting or gas, while others have no gut issues at all but struggle with itchy skin, ear flare-ups, or constant paw licking.

If you’re trialling a protein to see if it helps with their skin/gut problem consistency is so important:

1. Use only 1 type of protein, and don’t mix in other meats (either dry food or meat)
2. Stick with it for at least 4–5 weeks to know whether it’s helping to reduce the itchy skin, ear infections or upset tummy. It takes time for the inflammation in the gut to settle down.
3. If your dog is reacting badly (itchy skin or digestive upset gets worse) before the 4-5 week mark then you know that your dog is reactive to that protein, so cease that one and try another.

⚠️ And one more very important point: 𝗥𝗘𝗠𝗢𝗩𝗘 𝗚𝗥𝗔𝗜𝗡𝗦 𝗙𝗥𝗢𝗠 𝗧𝗛𝗘𝗜𝗥 𝗗𝗜𝗘𝗧.
If their still getting grains in their food while your trialling different meats they may be reacting to the grains, not the protein type.

It can feel overwhelming, but don’t give up - once you identify the trigger, the transformation in their comfort and quality of life is absolutely worth it!

Patch is an 11-year-old Jack Russell who is still very active for his age. When he was first booked in to see us, he was noticeably limping on his front left leg due to arthritis in his elbow.

With a 6–8 week wait for his appointment, his mum reached out for guidance. Based on the symptoms described, we recommended strict rest along with starting Canine Vital Joint Protect while they waited for his consultation.

By the time Patch came in this week, we were genuinely pleased with his progress. His limping had reduced, his movement was smoother, and he appeared much more comfortable overall.

In the clinic, our current waiting period is approximately 6–8 weeks. However, we are increasingly seeing dogs show encouraging improvement during this time when given appropriate support early.

If your dog is currently on our waiting list, don’t feel helpless — there are proactive steps you can take.

✨ Support them early. The results may surprise you.

PS: Every dog is different, and results may vary depending on the underlying condition and individual response.

Today our little Spritz had her desexing procedure at 5 years and 7 months old.

At just 1.7kg, anaesthesia is never something we take lightly.

As some of you know, she is my (Mel) little sidekick, so naturally today was an emotional day for me. Handing her over this morning was not easy.

There was a small complication during surgery, but Dr Jenny handled it with incredible skill and was able to complete the procedure safely.

Spritz is now home recovering, and we are beyond grateful. We truly can’t thank Dr Jenny and her team enough for taking such wonderful care of our tiny girl.

From the bottom of our hearts - THANK YOU for looking after our little baby🐾

If you’re looking for an excellent Vet who is knowledgeable, genuinely caring, highly skilled, and very reasonably priced, we truly can’t recommend Newbridge Animal Centre highly enough.

Today’s consult room looked like a Golden Retriever convention 😂🐾
Large breeds put a lot of strain on their hips and backs, so maintenance really matters — even if it comes with five times the fur and tail wags. We honestly wouldn’t have it any other way!

Meet Jazz, a sweet little terrier cross who used to spend her days endlessly licking and chewing her feet. Her fur was stained, her hair patchy, and she just never seemed truly comfortable.

Her mum had tried what felt like every probiotic out there, hoping something would calm Jazz’s itchy skin - but nothing really made a difference.

That changed when she introduced Canine Vital Probiotic Plus.
Since starting Probiotic Plus, the change has been lovely to see.

The constant licking and chewing has settled.
The staining around her mouth and paws has gradually cleared.

Her hair has grown back, and her coat looks healthier than it has in a long time (still a little scruffy — she is a terrier after all!).

Most importantly, at 13 years of age, Jazz is back to being bright, playful, and comfortable in herself again.

Her mum told us,
“It’s the first time in years Jazz has been this comfortable in her own skin.”

If your dog is constantly scratching, licking, or experiencing skin flare-ups, please know you’re not alone. These issues can be incredibly frustrating and often there’s more going on beneath the surface.

If you’ve been dealing with something similar and feeling unsure about what to try next, feel free to reach out - happy to guide you and see how we can support your dog.

The Truth About Dogs Allergies

Many people think allergies are only caused by grass, pollen or the environment.
And yes — those things can trigger symptoms.

But here’s what most people don’t realise:
👉 Many allergy symptoms are linked to gut health.

Your dog’s immune system is closely connected to their gut.
When the gut is out of balance, the immune system can become over-reactive.

That’s when we start seeing:
• Itchy skin
• Red paws
• Ear infections
• Constant licking
• Hot spots
• Upset stomach
• Loose stools

The grass may be the trigger…But the gut often determines how severe the reaction is.

When the gut is supported properly, many dogs cope much better with environmental triggers.
That’s why supporting the gut matters!

If your dog has persistent itching, it might be time to look at supporting their gut health.
