Big changes are happening in aged care right now and if someone you love is currently on a Home Care Package, this matters.

The Australian Government has already replaced Home Care Packages with the new Support at Home program. And while the changes are designed to be an improvement, understanding whether you or your loved one actually qualifies and what comes next is where most families get stuck.

Here's what eligibility looks like under the new system in plain English:
→ You need to be 65 or older and an Australian resident
→ Your care needs are assessed through the Single Assessment System — not just your age
→ Once approved, you're placed into one of 8 funding classifications, each with its own quarterly budget
→ If you were already on a Home Care Package before November 2025, you've been transitioned across but your plan may still need a review
