Pain during s*x, known as dyspareunia, is more common than many people realise, and it is something you deserve support with, not something to face in silence. It can affect the body, mood, relationships, and overall well being, often in ways that feel frustrating or isolating. The encouraging part is that there are effective ways to help. A pelvic floor physiotherapist or other healthcare professional can work with you to understand what is driving your symptoms and create a tailored plan to reduce pain and restore comfort and confidence.

Many people assume pelvic floor issues are only about weakness, but that’s only half the story. Muscles that are too tight can be just as problematic, leading to symptoms like pelvic pain, urinary urgency, difficulty emptying the bladder, or discomfort with intimacy.

Your pelvic floor is designed to both contract and relax in coordination with your breath and core. When this balance is disrupted, your body can start to compensate in ways that create ongoing symptoms.

The good news is that these issues are highly treatable. A tailored assessment can determine whether your muscles need strengthening, relaxation, or better coordination, so you can feel more comfortable and in control again.

If something doesn’t feel quite right, it’s worth getting it checked. You don’t have to put up with it.

The answer is yes!

It is recommended that new mums have a postpartum check-up with a women’s health physiotherapist, whether they have had a va**nal birth or a C-section.

Pregnancy places significant load on the pelvic floor due to carrying extra weight, which can contribute to pelvic floor weakness.

A postpartum assessment can also check for abdominal separation (diastasis recti), supporting recovery and helping you return to feeling strong, stable and active. 💙

Alcohol causes dehydration and therefore is an irritant to the bladder's lining. Due to dehydration, urine becomes more concentrated and acidic which can cause symptoms similar to an UTI, such as burning and sharp pain. Due to alcohol also being a depressant for the nervous system, alcohol relaxes the detrusor muscles, therefore increasing the risk of accidental leakage or urinary incontinence. Consuming no more than 10 standard drinks weekly can prevent these effects. Be mindful🍹

Is it true that around 1 in 5 breastfeeding mums experience mastitis? The answer is yes.

Mastitis is an inflammation of breast tissue that can happen during breastfeeding and may cause pain, redness, swelling, fever, and flu like symptoms. It is often related to milk not draining well, blocked ducts, ni**le damage, or sometimes infection, and it can develop quite quickly.

The good news is that early care can really help ease symptoms and support a faster recovery.

We offer urgent mastitis treatment. If you are experiencing any symptoms or are unsure, please call the clinic on 94312530 to book in your appointment 💙

Let’s understand vulvodynia 💙

Vulvodynia is a chronic pain condition characterised by burning, stinging or raw sensations in the vulvar region, often without an identifiable cause such as infection or visible skin changes.

For many people, symptoms can be ongoing and are sometimes normalised or misunderstood, even when they have a real impact on daily life and wellbeing. Vulvar pain is not something that should be ignored and it is important that it is properly assessed.

Symptoms can vary from person to person. Some experience constant discomfort, while others notice pain with touch, pressure, or activities such as sitting or tampon use.

Vulvodynia can affect everyday activities, including exercise, sitting, and intimacy, and may also impact confidence and quality of life.

If this sounds familiar, you are not alone and support is available. Please call us on 94312530 or book an appointment online via our website.

Everything you should know about pessaries 💙

A pessary is a small, removable device designed to support the pelvic organs and help manage pelvic organ prolapse, a condition that affects many women. Pessaries come in a range of shapes and sizes and are made from soft, medical-grade silicone to ensure comfort and safety.

They work by gently supporting the pelvic floor, helping to relieve symptoms such as feelings of heaviness or bulging in the va**na, pelvic pressure or discomfort, and difficulty emptying the bladder or bowel. For many people, a pessary can be an effective, non-surgical way to stay active, reduce symptoms, and improve quality of life.

Pessaries are easy to manage at home and can be inserted and removed by yourself once you know the technique. They do not prevent s*xual activity and are often a great option for those who wish to delay or avoid surgery.
