🏋️‍♂️ Why Every Runner Needs Strength Training 🏃‍♀️

If you’re a runner, strength and conditioning can be your secret weapon. Here’s why:

✅ Injury Prevention – Stronger muscles provide joint support and help keep injuries at bay.
✅ Enhanced Running Economy – Build efficiency so every stride uses less energy.
✅ Improved Form & Stability – A solid core and balanced lower body lead to better running mechanics especially as you fatigue.
✅ Increased Power – Conquer hills and finish strong with explosive strength training.
✅ Faster Recovery – A well-conditioned body recovers quickly, getting you back on track sooner.
✅ Lean & Light – Worried about getting bulky? Smart strength work is designed to keep you lean, boosting performance rather than adding unwanted weight.

Whether it’s through bodyweight workouts, resistance bands, or functional weight training, 2–3 sessions a week can transform your running game without slowing you down.

If you need help developing a strength program to compliment your running, let me know and I can help tailor a program to your specific needs.

🟠MARATHON RECAP🟠

So it’s been a few weeks since I have completed my first marathon and it has taken a little bit for it to sink in the achievement that this was. Honestly in the beginning I was a little disappointed with how my body had felt throughout the race. Everyone else seemed so happy for me but I just couldn’t see it right away, I was caught up in the outcome as I know I have more in me and feel like I have unfinished business with the Marathon.

But in the past few weeks I have now come to understand and appreciate the difficulty in the marathon on both your physical and mental endurance.

On reflection I feel I enjoyed the process of training, working towards a goal and seeing my fitness improve, over the actual completion and outcome of the race. This backs up the cliche “it’s the journey not the destination”.

I have learnt where things went wrong and can also see what I executed well and this will make me a better runner moving forward.

Not disappointed just driven to improve.

And most importantly a big thanks to and my girls for their support and letting daddy go for another run. 😘

Super shoes have revolutionized racing, but they require adaptation. Runners should test them in training, understand their biomechanical effects, and be aware of their shorter lifespan to maximize their benefits.

I recently chose the Adidas Adios Pro 4 for my first marathon and it felt great for my biomechanics. I had previously purchased a pair of Nike Alphafly 3 (worn in both the men’s and women’s marathon WR) but these just didn’t work for me; they felt mechanical and a bit clunky, but they were very fast!!

Which super shoe is in your rotation?

Key Benefits of Tapering Before a Race:

✅ Muscle Recovery – Reduces fatigue and repairs the muscle from all the hard training.
✅ Energy Restoration – Replenishes glycogen stores for peak performance.
✅ Reduced Injury Risk – Lessens strain on muscles, tendons, and joints.
✅ Mental Readiness – Boosts confidence and sharpens focus.
✅ Peak Performance – Ensures you feel fresh, strong, and race-ready.

How to Taper for a Marathon 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️

▪️3 Weeks Out: Reduce mileage by 20-30%, maintain intensity.
▪️2 Weeks Out: Cut mileage by 40-50%, focus on shorter quality runs.
▪️Race Week: Drop mileage to 20-30% of peak training, include short, easy runs with race-pace strides.

Finally prioritize sleep, hydration, and nutrition. Get those carbs in!
Trust the Process: Your fitness is built—race day is time to shine!

📝 Every Runner Needs a Plan

Struggling to hit your running goals or stay injury-free? Here’s why following a structured running program can make all the difference:

1. Progress with Purpose
A program keeps motivation high and ensures you gradually build endurance, speed, and strength, avoiding plateaus or burnout.

2. Reduce Injury Risk
By balancing effort and recovery, you prevent overtraining and give your body time to adapt.

3. Enhanced Performance
Improves overall fitness and targets different aspects of running: speed, threshold capacity and endurance, leading to a faster more efficient runner.

💡 Ready to commit? Reach out, and we’ll help you design the perfect plan for your running goals.

🏃‍♂️💨 Consistency is the key 💪

Running isn’t about one big effort—it’s about consistently putting the training together each week. Your body adapts gradually, building endurance, strength, and efficiency over time.

✅ Small efforts add up
✅ Reduces risk of injury
✅ Improves performance & confidence
