๐ŸŒฟ What an inspiring night in Emerald! ๐ŸŒฟ

Our community came together to enjoy some delicious food and celebrate the launch of our new Bowel Cancer Research Initiative, funded through the 2024 Partnerships for Cancer Research grant program.

Hosted by JCU CQCRRH, the evening brought together Elders, local families, health professionals, and researchers to share stories, knowledge, and hopes for a healthier future.

This project is all about co-designing culturally safe models of care with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities across Central Queensland. The research will be guided by Indigenous methodologies and community voices every step of the way.

A big thank you to everyone who joined us and shared their wisdom. ๐Ÿ’›

Weโ€™re excited to walk this journey together towards stronger, healthier communities.

Our JCU: James Cook University, Australia Occupational Therapy students from the JCU Allied Health Clinic in Emerald attended the 6th Parkinsonโ€™s Support Group today to present on how occupational therapy can support people living with Parkinsonโ€™s. ๐Ÿง โœจ

The students shared practical tips and strategies to make everyday activities a little easier โ€” from energy conservation and home safety to ways of maintaining independence and quality of life. They also talked about how OTs can work alongside other allied health professionals to support clients and their carers.

This group is a wonderful community initiative that provides a supportive space not only for people with Parkinsonโ€™s but also for their carers. ๐Ÿ’š The monthly meetings are a great way to connect, share experiences, learn new things, and offer each other encouragement.

A big thank you to Peter Bailey for inviting our students to speak and be part of such an inspiring group! ๐Ÿ‘ Parkinson's QLD
