Shin Splints-
So nasty that, if you have ever had them- you won't forget them.
Shin splints are the seriously painful inflammation's of the muscle tissue and tendons along the shin, felt as high as the knee and as low as the instep.
Causes are varied and are unique to the sufferer, however a general list of causes are;
Flat feet β the shin muscles are involved in maintaining the instep or arch of the foot. Flat feet can pull at the shin tendons and cause slight tearing.
Running shoes β wearing the wrong type of shoe while running can contribute to shin splints.
Impact activities β the impact of running on hard or uneven surfaces can injure the shin muscles and tendons.
Incorrect technique β poor running form, such as βrollingβ the feet inwards (pronation), can strain the muscles and tendons
Good news is managing or removing these will assist the condition.
In my line of work I have experienced myself and met my fair share of shin splint suffers, who have generously shared some of their home remedies for the benefit for all.
Thanks to all who contributed to this post.
Home remedies for shin splints:
Rest as much as you can.
Apply an icepack to the affected areas for 10 to 20 minutes, about three or four times daily.
Take anti-inflammatory painkillers, such as aspirin or ibuprofen.
Perform low impact activities while you recover, such as swimming.
Happy Exercising!!! :))
