So... today, this pic came up in memories...12 months ago. It's a long story. One I haven't cared to share. But 12 months on, I'm being brave and hope it may help others. I know many women are being confronted with the same deal.
So, if you care to follow, I'll be posting more about my journey.
Here's a snippet.
After 12 months of regular, but increasingly heavy periods, February 2024, brought with it, what I thought were two very heavy bleeds with only a few days between. I just put this down to perimenopause. Things are changing.. right! Maybe it's my last hoorah.
Then, 16th March, after only another few days reprieve, a third heavy bleed began. 😕
SOMETHING IS NOT RIGHT.
Went to visit a GP at a medical centre. I couldn't get in to see my regular. Tests were run, and a pelvic ultrasound discovered numerous, large uterine fibroids!! Well now I had an answer!
2 days later and a call from the GP 'Your haemoglobin is 60, half what it should be, I suggest you head straight to emergency! WTF! Why? I feel fine! I was at work, on a regular Wednesday, getting on with my life...
Reluctantly, I went home, showered (not knowing how long I'd be there for), packed a bag, a book, (thinking I'd be waiting in emergency for umpteen hours) and my partner picked me up, dropping me at the doors of emergency. Fun.
Well, no wait necessary. Within 10 minutes, I was sporting a hospital gown, laying on a bed, blood tests running, and a cannula in my arm 🫣
Blood transfusion on its way!!
Pretty scary. All the thoughts.. can I die? How close was i to death? Do I really want someone else's blood running through my veins!
After 1 bag of blood (should've been at least 2-3, I later learnt), and an iron infusion, I was sent home facing a health hurdle, I didn't see coming!
