21 Years in Aesthetic Medicine 💉✨
This year I’m celebrating 21 years working in aesthetic medicine and it’s been a while since I’ve done a little “get to know me” 😉
WHO AM I?
I am Nurse Practitioner, in early 2013 I became the first endorsed NP in aesthetic medicine in Australia.
A quiet career highlight: helping build a pathway that’s supported many aesthetic nurses in becoming endorsed Nurse Practitioners. Nothing better than seeing your colleagues thrive 🤍
To become endorsed as a Nurse Practitioner, I was required to:
• Complete 5,000+ advanced clinical hours in my specialty
• Obtain my Masters of Nurse Practice / Nurse Practitioner
• Submit a comprehensive portfolio to AHPRA for vetting and approval
• Specific to being an experienced aesthetic nurse I needed to introduce our endorsing body to how this role satisfies the requirements of advanced practice.
Becoming an NP broadened my scope significantly, allowing me to prescribe medications and refer within my specialty, resulting in more comprehensive, safe, and autonomous care for my patients.
Before NP endorsement, I had already been working in aesthetic non-surgical medicine since 2005 as a Registered Nurse.
My very first aesthetic nursing role?
📍 Harley Medical Group, Dublin, Ireland
There I worked across both surgical and non-surgical aesthetics and that’s where my love for all things aesthetic truly began.
Fun fact:
After finishing my nursing degree in 2002, I started my career at the Royal Children’s Hospital, where I worked for two years. A very different environment, but one that shaped the clinician I am today.
21 years later… I still love what I do 🤍
Grateful for every patient, every lesson, and every evolution in this industry.
