We're kicking off a short series taking you behind the scenes of running a small business.
As the year draws to a close and a new wave of graduates gets ready to enter the industry, it feels like a good time to reflect. Not just for those starting out, but for anyone already in business too.
A few things we wish more people knew early on:
First, your first business partners are the ATO and insurance companies. They take plenty, give very little back, and they never forget to invoice you. If you want to grow, you need to budget properly and be intentional about where your money goes.
Second, surviving isnât thriving. Making it a few years in business is great, but if youâre only paying wages with no progress or profit, something probably needs to change. Time and sacrifice only matter if the business is actually moving your life forward.
Third, stop comparing yourself to what other businesses post online. Itâs highlights only, no financials, and mostly just noise. Focus on your own lane.
We're not trying to be business coaches, sell a course, or slide into your DMs for $997. Just sharing a few hard-earned lessons after 15 years in it.
