Vitalia

Vitalia We ship Australia wide. We run wellness workshops and have an in house naturopath. We were not always so passionate about natural health and well-being.

Located in Brisbane's west, we stock a wide range of wellness products, aromatherapy supplies, DIY raw ingredients and containers, natural pet care & lifestyle products. We didn't know about how our bodies worked or what using harmful products could do to them. We didn't even know what a harmful product was! We used to eat horrendous food, had cupboards full of all the name brand chemical cleaning products (even if we didn’t use them all that much LOL) and just followed the masses in how to “care/suppress” for our body’s health. Our family was introduced to a more natural approach to life through moments where we questioned the safety of something we were doing. It all started with Reeda questioning cleaning practices used in the business she was working at when she was about 23 and how they could be affecting her health. It certainly wasn't trumpet blazing “ah ha” moments that changed our approach. It was a lot of "what if" moments that led us to looking into what we were doing and how it could be affecting us. We started to ask: What if this isn't good for us? What if doing this is causing damage to our bodies? Could there be a better, safer way? The passion for a more natural approach to live came through many years of running a pet care business and making big changes to how things were accepted and done “normally”. Many decisions made were the some of the first in the industry and not something that was widely done or accepted. Becoming parents and realising the importance our decisions had for the health and well-being of our children changed things dramatically. It just got real and we became a lot more focused on trying to make the best decisions for them and their long term health, and also the world that they would inherit. We (well Reeda) researched and researched and made HUGE changes and big decisions about what we would have in our home. We learned about the concerns of BPA in plastics, chemicals in shampoos and body products, makeup, air fresheners, clothes, food and so much more. It certainly opened a Pandora’s box! We made decisions not to use a lot of things because it never made sense to us to put something on and in our bodies that we knew was toxic. We were learning about and using all sorts of natural products (some Brad would bring back from America when he was over there on trips for work). We learned how the world had been created with pretty much everything we needed around us in the sun, plants, air and water and that we were created to thrive. We started eating organic food as much as possible, avoiding certain things and making informed choices, we certainly weren’t perfect, still aren’t, but we make informed choices now rather than just doing what is done. We didn't really have any idea about being able to make our own products and we just thought it was too hard and time consuming (We were wrong!). We were introduced to therapeutic essential oils when our 12 month old daughter struggled with a respiratory issue. Although we had a cupboard full of natural options nothing had ever worked as quickly or effectively. It was very impressive to us and made us want to look deeper into how essential oils worked. This led us to embracing a lifestyle that included using essential oils and opening our minds to the many ways they can be used. We learned how simple it was to make many of the products around our house that we bought elsewhere and could replace them all in our home with simple, cheap and safe ingredients. We want to share with and support others along this journey to live life to the full and embrace a more natural way of life. We have learned so much on our journey that we are excited to share with those who are traveling along the same path, realising that it will and should always look different for each person. We also want to make natural more mainstream, everyone can do it! Whether you are just starting out and feeling a bit overwhelmed by everything, to those who are ready to try the next step, to those who have spent many years and have a wealth of knowledge - we want to help you. We want to make it easier for you to find high quality products, ingredients and supplies that make a difference not only to your life, but to those around you and our precious environment. We want this to be a joint effort where we all help each other to find the solutions we need. We have a vision for helping people lead a healthier, cleaner life to the full, embracing natural products and essential oils. We want to make a difference in the world socially and environmentally and will always be looking for ways we can contribute. We love supporting those who are growing businesses with tools and resources that not only help them grow their business, but also support their customers as well. We want to provide the best customer service we can (with a whole lot of fun added in) and want you to feel like you are a hugely important part of this business - because you are. You are the reason we do this! We hope you find what you are looking for as you travel this natural lifestyle us and that your experience as you journey alongside us brings you solutions that help you live life to the full! Do you have a combination of oils that you use all the time? Maybe a diffuser blend, bath soak combo or roller blend.
Or do you want to use a combination of lots of different oils but only use 1 or 2 drops of the mix?

Save time by combining the oils you use into the one bottle and create a master blend. Then you can add the drops of your new blend without having to pick up multiple bottles each time.

You can add the oils to an empty essential oil bottle of one of the oils in the blend. Or to make it easier to use, add all the oils to a dropper bottle.

Have you ever made a master blend before? What combination of oils do you use regularly and what do you use them for?

I nearly didn't share this as it just grossed me out!

These tea towels were clean, but they were a bit smelly and quite grey. So I decided to give them a deep clean on the stove with some soaker and extra washing soda... I was mortified at how gross the water ended up.

The video speaks for itself and really shows how good the soaker is! By far one of our best sellers and this is why.

The tea towels were put into a hot wash with kinkin washing liquid and extra washing soda and they have come up nicely - no more smell!

Add some washing soda to your wash cycle. It acts as a powerful cleaning agent, effective for removing tough stains and softening water to improve detergent performance.

Sometimes it may feel like you are dealing with a faceless business and we wanted to take a moment to introduce ourselves and tell you a little bit about us - Brad and Reeda.

We have been married for 27 years last month and our time together has been anything but boring.

We married at 21 and 19 (yes Brad married a teenager!) and moved from Melb to WA where Brad was working in the Airforce as a pilot (which he did for over 20 years).

We are total opposites apart from our faith - Brad is Mr steady and loves routine, Reeda is the epitome of ADHD and loves new adventures.

Brad has another job he does alongside Vitalia as a tour guide and he gets to take people to see amazing parts of SE QLD and he is very good at it. He uses all the skills he learned in the Airforce about planning and scheduling and gets his fill of exploring the outdoors. He is ALWAYS on time and is always looking for ways to anticipate his guests every need.

Reeda also has another job grooming cats and dogs, which she has done for about 20 years. She was Australia's First Certified Feline Master Groomer back in 2011 after attending cat grooming school in America. She has always had an innate instinct with animals and this also shows through the menagerie of animals on our property. These years of experience with animals have taught her a lot about how to care for them in more natural ways.

Brad looks after most of the behind the scenes tasks that are needed at Vitalia, until he gets hold of a phone and shares one of his "amazing" 🙄 jokes.
Reeda loves sharing her knowledge gathered of natural health and wellness from the last 20 years, through the products we stock and the information we share.

Although we are very different, we have always been the perfect choice for each other. We work very well together and are passionate about helping others to experience positive change in their lives and we get to do that through Vitalia.

Alongside Erin, Carrie and Sophia our goal is to support you all to have access to products and knowledge that can allow you to take control of your health and well-being and live your life to the full!

Making your own perfume bottles is not only simple, but really relaxing and enjoyable and they are also a lovely gift to give/receive.

They bring joy just by the beauty of the botanicals, add the essential oils and you have such a lovely way to brighten someone's day.

You can tailor your scent to anything you like and even make it with oils that are the same as the botanicals you used in the bottle.

What you need:
Roller bottle - clear is best if using Botanicals
Carrier oil
Essential Oils

What you do:
Add your chosen botanicals to your roller. You can use one type or a mixed selection.
Add your essential oils - You can use 10-20 drops in a 10ml bottle
Fill roller with carrier oil.
Replace roller and lid and shake to combine.

The essential oil combinations are endless! You can get creative and make unique blends for everyone.

Is there someone you know who needs something to brighten their day? Make them a roller and give it to them just because.

What are some of your favourite oil combos?

Fem Balance - this is a product that I have been using for a few years now and so impressed with the results. Make sure you give it 3-6 months use to start seeing results.

Check out the review from our website too, from another very happy customer!

************
I pop Fem Balance into my morning smoothie like it’s a secret weapon... and, it kind of is.

When I slack off and skip it, those charming perimenopausal symptoms come waltzing back in: hot flushes, middle-of-the-night sweats, restless sleep.
The moment I get back into my smoothie groove with Fem Balance, everything settles. No sweats, no flushes, just sweet, uninterrupted sleep and a sense that my hormones are actually on my side. It’s been a game-changer for navigating this wild ride into the prime of my life!

Our hormones play an important role in maintaining a healthy weight.
Certain chemicals are known "endocrine disruptors" which means they can mimic the role of hormones which then tricks the body.
Endocrine-disrupting chemicals include substances in our environment, water, food and personal care products that interfere with the production, transport, breakdown, binding and elimination of hormones. This can put hormones all out of sync and have the body working harder to balance out hormone production.

Here are some things to avoid to help reduce your exposure to hormone affecting chemicals:
🚫 Bisphenol-A (BPA) - found predominantly in plastic food and drink containers. Avoid plastic for your food and drinks, particularly those that will be heated. Avoid plastics with #7 on them and canned foods like tomatoes and tuna. Invest in high quality stainless steel water bottles - make sure they don't have a plastic lining in them!
🚫 Fragrance - Fragrance is used in soaps, shampoos, beauty care and skin care products, and cleaning products. It is also linked to headaches, dizziness, asthma and allergies. Use products with natural fragrances only, but be aware "natural fragrance" on a label can mean it comes from a natural origin, but is not in its natural form so may cause issues. Use pure essential oils for fragrance when needed.
🚫 Perfluoroctanoic acid (PFOA) - Found in non-stick cookware (also known as Teflon), PFOA has been linked to obesity. It is also found in grease proof food wrappers and microwavable popcorn bags. Use untreated stainless steel or cast iron cookware, avoid all non stick products.
🚫 Triflumizole - a fungicide commonly used on many food crops, especially leafy greens. Almost all of the common chemicals used on our crops are endocrine-disrupting, which means they promote fat storage and undermine our body's ability to build lean muscle. Choose organic and spray free produce whenever you can.
🚫 Emulsifiers - These chemicals are added to processed foods to improve texture and prevent separation. A new study published in the journal Nature found they negatively impact your gut biome, creating a bacterial imbalance that can lead to metabolic syndrome. Emulsifiers are found in many processed foods (often listed as "polysorbates" and "sorbitan monostearate" on food labels), try to avoid them and instead enjoy a diet of whole foods instead.
🚫 Phthalates - Pthalates are preservatives used in soaps, shampoos, cosmetics, beauty and skin care products, and cleaning products. They are very damaging to our endocrine system, particularly reproduction and male fertility. They can alter s***m quality and s***m count, as well as damage the te**es.
🚫 Antibiotics and Hormones - When cattle and other livestock are treated with antibiotics and hormones, you get a dose when eat the meat & milk from these animals. Choose antibiotic and hormone-free meats and dairy products (look for "organic," "free range" and "grass-fed" on the label) and choose leaner cuts of meat. Many of these chemicals are fat soluable, which means they're more likely to accumulate in fatty tissues.
🚫 Parabens - (Propyl-, Isopropyl-, Butyl- and Isobutyl-) Parabens are preservatives used in cosmetics, skin care products, soaps, cleaning products and baby products to extend shelf life. Researchers have found that parabens collect in breast tissue and can stimulate the growth of breast cancer cells, in both men and women. They are also potentially damaging to DNA.

These are just a few of the concerning chemicals that our bodies are exposed to. It can be overwhelming and disheartening to have this knowledge, thinking that you have to change everything - so much so that it can lead to inaction.

Our advice is to take the knowledge (get cranky if you need to) and make small changes in your life. These small changes may not feel like much to begin with, but many small changes will lead to big changes over time!
💡Maybe choose to only purchase organic salad greens, or some part of your fresh food
💡Make your own hand soap and other cleaning and personal care products and stop using ones you purchase from the shops. We can help you with that and we have a heap of starter kits to get you going!
💡Start investing in glass storage containers for your food and phase out plastic.
💡Stop using perfumes and other products packed with fragrance - try making your own with pure essential oils.
💡Start replacing pre-packaged food with home made, additive free foods. The girls from Additive Free Lifestyle can help you learn about doing that and how simple it is to swap!

What is one thing you can change today that your future self will appreciate? If you have already started the process of changing your exposure to harmful chemicals, what was the first thing you did?

Sourdough... we have talked about how good and easy it is to make sourdough at home and regulalry get people asking for help.
We can tell you over and over how simple and easy it is, but sometimes it takes a hands on approach to showing that.
We are considering running a beginners sourdough workshop at our store and are looking for interest for this.

We could do just sourdough or a combination sourdough/
fermenting workshop - or even both.

Woukd love feedback and expressions of interest if this is something you would be interested in. Let us know below.

Do you make your own sourdough? Any tips?
