*** Hydrotherapy Update***
Due to the closure of indoor sports centres and gyms announced last night, Stellar Swim has closed as of today.

This means that hydrotherapy can no longer be offered.

My thoughts are with the staff at Stellar during this very difficult time. I'm sure for all of us the reality of this situation will be gradually sinking in over the coming days. Please don't forget to support your local businesses as best you can over the coming months.

If anyone has concerns over their treatment plan or with receiving care, please get in touch.

Take care!

I remain open as usual while we all wait for clarification today from the ACT government. It is looking like hydrotherapy services will no longer continue due to possible pool closures but I will confirm this hopefully later today.

Rest assured the clinic is following stricter social distancing and cleaning measures after every patient. Your health and that of the community remains a top priority. More information to come.

I hope you all having a great weekend! It's a good time to be enjoying the simple things, this beautiful weather, switching off and not looking for toilet paper!

I've made this infographic about telehealth that I'd like you to check out and please share around. Despite all the worry in our lives at the moment, rest assured that you can still be looking after your health with easy access to great services right at your fingertips!

Message me for more details. Take care of yourselves and others!

I hope that everyone is faring well during these challenging times and thinking about how we can be looking after our community.

I wanted to pass on some important information regarding my services during this period.

🀧 Please, if you are feeling unwell then DO NOT attend your appointment. I will not be charging a late cancellation fee for anyone who is unwell. Similarly, I won't be coming to work if I am also sick.

πŸ– Please wash your hands or use the hand sanitiser at reception on arrival and leaving.

πŸŽ₯ I will be offering teleconferencing if you can't make it to the clinic. This can be helpful if you are wanting advice regarding an injury and / or exercise programs. Please feel free to contact me or reception for further details.

πŸŠβ€β™‚οΈ There has been some concern this week regarding hydrotherapy. At this stage pools remain open and I will continue to run hydrotherapy sessions unless they are closed. Stellar pool monitors its chlorine and pH levels within stringent infection control standards. Chlorine is also a good disinfectant, and there is no evidence that COVID-19 is transmissible in such an environment. Stellar is also increasing its cleaning and disinfecting routine for frequently touched surfaces, including in change rooms and pool deck. Again, I ask that you wash hands on arrival, shower before entering the pool and washing hands upon leaving the pool. The total number of clients at any one time will also be limited so to avoid any crowding either in the pool or change rooms, to maintain social distancing.

Thank you all for your ongoing support and understanding during this period. The health and well-being of all clients, and FAH staff are paramount. I will keep you updated on any changes as they come.

Stay healthy and happy πŸ™

πŸ‘Ÿ "What running shoes should I buy?" πŸ‘Ÿ

I'm often asked this question in the clinic, usually by patients with lower limb injuries and they could be thinking that their shoes may be to blame.

My answer is usually the same, because there is no one shoe type that will benefit everyone. And often, shoe prescription may be the least important factor when it comes to developing or managing a running injury.

If you are in the market for new shoes, I suggest selecting 3 different pairs / brands of shoe to try on, and go with the ones that feel the most comfortable for you (think of the fit, cushioning and weight). Choose with your head and not with your heart. Don't just go with the fancy colours, looks or price tag (for those with teenage kids this could be difficult! πŸ™„).

Happy shopping!

The year has gone by so quickly! As October comes to an end, so marks the 1st anniversary of being a sole practitioner.

I just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone and that I greatly appreciate the support you have given me and the business over the past year! πŸ™

There has been a lot of learning, challenges, roller coasters and fun along the way. Here's to many more! πŸ₯³πŸ‘πŸŽ‚πŸŽ‰

Get those shoulders strong! πŸ’ͺπŸ¦Έβ€β™‚οΈπŸ‹οΈβ€β™€οΈ

A study by Yang et al 2019 has found that active, middle-aged men who could perform >40 push-ups had a 96% reduced risk of cardiovascular disease events compared to those who could perform less than 10.

The study followed 1104 active male firefighters over a 10 year period. Push-ups can be a simpler test and apparently more reliable than a sub-maximal treadmill test.

While this study may not be generalised to everyone, it is still food for thought to get out there and stay strong! πŸ€Έβ€β™‚οΈ

πŸ“£Ever wondered about how foam rolling or soft-tissue releasing can help with pain or tightness? πŸ€”

I often ask clients to use a tennis ball, foam roller or a rolling pin to work into tight sore muscles as it can be a great way in managing a painful site. Important note - it doesn't fix the problem, only helps to temporarily ease the pain or tightness.

Studies that have investigated the effects of using a foam roller have found that afterwards, local tissues show decreased stiffness. We think this may be due to an increase in blood flow and heating of tissue, which can then improve the viscosity of fluid in the tissue.

However, rolling has shown to decrease pain and improve stiffness at other untreated areas, probably suggesting a more important effect on modulating the nervous system.

Amazing! 🀯

Feel free to message me for further details or help with your rolling and releasing! πŸ—£
