Time to make a change? It is sometimes so easy to go with the flow, along the well-trodden path - but that path is not necessarily for everyone. When you recognise that a path you have been blindly following or a pattern you have is not helping you be the person you want to be - it is time to decide what actions you will take to change it.

Hypnotherapy is a results driven form of support. Our role is to coach and support you to become aware of how you can change, learn and use tools to support that change to happen, and to develop your own skills to learn from and manage change yourself.

Hypnotherapy works differently for each client. Some clients may start to see changes and result immediately, others may take a little longer depending on the complexity of what we are working on changing, how much practice between sessions is done and many other factors.

On average each program is about 3 sessions. The more complex the work we do, the longer the program. Clients often also like to come back in 3 or 6 months after their initial program as a bit of a refresher or "tune up" so to speak!

Things people ask me about hypnosis? - What if I fall asleep?

This is definitely a common question, and the truth is, you might! And that is ok.

Particularly if you are coming to us to get help with sleep issues and insomnia - we may just let you have that deep sleep you need.

However, in most cases, when a hypnotherapist guides you to a state of deep relaxation or focus the intention is not that you will go into a deep sleep. Ideally people will be guided to hover in that state of mind you get just before you drift off to sleep - still paying some attention to what is going on around you but that sense of calm descending. In this state, we can guide, prompt and support your subconscious to consider options for change, and to be open to exploring how to make it happen. Balancing your focus state in this zone, is what we are trained to do, but everyone experiences how deep this state may be a little differently.

It is one of the great myths that hypnotherapy is about giving others control of your mind, when it is actually about empowering you to regain power over choices you thought were out of your control - like trying to break a seemingly unbreakable patter or cycle..

During a hypnosis session you maintain control of your brain and what you want do, react or engage with in a session at all times. If you want to end the hypnosis experience, you can just choose to stop at any time! No-one can force you to pay attention if you don't want to....

So often we think about change, we dream of what change might be like...but how well do we understand when to start making that change a reality? How do we decide what first step to take?

How do you decide? How do you know that your dream of change is ready to become a reality?

Sometimes people might dream of change because the grass maybe greener elsewhere..so how do we know when we are fantasising about change and if it is change we really want to see? One way is that we actually decide to take an action to help make it happen.

It all starts with a conversation...

In a session we will spend quite a bit of time at the beginning of a session simply talking together, and supporting you to consider and describe the steps you use currently to do the things you want to change. Then, using this understanding of your current state we can start to find spots in your experience and ways to influence what and how you process things to help make change happen.

This conversation is the foundation of what is covered during the hypnosis part of the session.

For this section, I support you to find a deep state of focused relaxation where we can start to build your skills, expectations, and understanding of what you need to do to see the change you need.

A hypnotic trance state is actually something most of us are more familiar with than you might expect.

Have you ever zoned out watching tv/streaming and forgotten forgotten how much time has past? Been scrolling on your phone and suddenly day has become night? Some people experience this type of focus and calm when running, dancing or even in that brief moment before we drop off to sleep.

This "focused/distracted zoning out" is - a kind of hypnotic trance. Hypnotherapists help you find that state and in this state of inner focus and deep relaxation we often find ourselves more accepting of new ideas and change. In this state we can start to lay the foundations for new patterns, mindsets and achieve change.

The world would be a very different place if this were true..and all we had to do was think about the change we wanted and it would magically just happen.

Thinking about and knowing the change we want to see is an important step in the process, but it also needs action. We need to do something differently not just think about what the difference might be..

What will you try to do differently today?

Hypnotherapy can be a very supportive tool to help understand barriers and opportunities for us to turn our will and idea for change into actual action - and start to see the results of that change in how we life our lives.
