With summer school holidays officially over for another year, our Kids team at East Melbourne are taking a moment to catch their breath after a bumper start to 2026 🧒 👶
With over 100 paediatric patients admitted in the first week back for the year alone, Nurse Unit Manager Carrie says that January is generally a busy time for the ward, with this year being no exception.
“With the busy Christmas period over, many parents take advantage of their child still being on school holidays to book in some of those smaller surgical procedures. With Mum or Dad often on leave over this period as well, it’s a great way to ensure your child can recuperate properly with the at-home support they need, just in time to head back to school to start the new year afresh. The bulk of the procedures we see at this time of the year for our paediatric patients are ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat) related and include tonsils, adenoids and grommets.”
One of the largest paediatric units in Victoria, St Vincent’s Kids has been specialising in orthopaedics, urology, ENT, plastics and general surgery for children and adolescents for decades.
In amongst tending to their young patients, the team has also been busy transitioning their Christmas display to the latest “Under the Sea” theming, which has also been receiving rave reviews from their many young patients and their families alike 🧜 🦑 🐳
