📘 Introducing “Monster Mode” — A New Story by Gregory Nicolau

Sometimes big feelings can feel like monsters.
They arrive suddenly, take up space, and make the world feel a little less safe.

“The Monster still visits sometimes.
It probably always will,
But now, when it shows up,
I don’t panic.
I know what to do…”

Monster Mode, written by ACTG’s founder Gregory Nicolau, is a gentle, trauma-informed story that helps children understand emotional overwhelm and what it means to feel safe again.

This marks the beginning of something special — the soft launch of ACTG’s upcoming online bookstore, where we’ll be sharing resources created to support children, families, educators, and practitioners.

🌱 Now Accepting Referrals for Reflective Practice at our Fitzroy Clinic 🌱

Reflective Practice is now available for educators, practitioners, and organisations seeking support to navigate complexity in their work.

Our facilitators create structured, emotionally safe spaces to explore practice decisions, understand patterns, and strengthen confidence when working with children and families impacted by trauma.

It is not supervision in the traditional sense—it’s a space to think, pause, make meaning, and reconnect to purpose.

🧠 Now Providing Cognitive Assessments at our Fitzroy Clinic 🧠

At the Australian Childhood Trauma Group (ACTG), we believe every young person deserves to be understood—beyond behaviour, beyond challenges, and beyond the classroom.

Our cognitive assessments help identify a child’s learning profile, strengths, and areas for support, giving families and educators the insights they need to create meaningful, evidence-based plans for growth.

🌼The body remembers what the mind can’t always say.

For children who have experienced trauma, pain, tension, or restlessness can be the body’s way of telling its story.
Our latest blog explores the somatic signs of trauma — how the body holds memories of distress, and how caregivers and professionals can help children feel safe in their own skin again. 🌿

The Body Remembers: Somatic Signs of Trauma in Children When a child experiences trauma, it doesn’t only leave an imprint on the mind—it leaves its mark on the body. Reminder: OPEN Symposium 2025 starts tomorrow!

We are proud to sponsor The Centre's OPEN Symposium 2025, taking place online on 21-22 October. This year's theme, 'Collaborative practice: Working in partnership with children and families', brings together sector leaders, practitioners and researchers to explore how we can work together for better outcomes.

Our CEO, Gregory Nicolau, and Clinical Director, Rudy Gonzalez, will join the speaker lineup to lead an engaging session titled “Leading in Times of Uncertainty: A Conversation on Reflection, Culture, and Care.” https://outcomes.org.au/open-symposium-2025/open-symposium-2025-program/leading-in-times-of-uncertainty/

In this live, podcast-style dialogue, they’ll explore how reflection can anchor organisations and individuals through turbulence — from COVID and workforce challenges to the shifting dynamics of care. Together, they’ll discuss how embedding reflection in workplace culture can strengthen resilience, nurture emotional safety, and restore shared purpose.
