Assimilation is when a child changes one sound in a word to make it more like another sound in the same word.

It’s like the sounds are “copying” each other! This makes words easier for kids to say while they’re still learning 😁

It’s a typical speech pattern in children, but usually fades by age 3.

Some examples of assimilation include:

🌟 yellow ➡️ lellow
🌟 cat ➡️ tat
