Many falls can be prevented with the right strategies.

Here are some key ways to stay steady:

Stay active with exercises that improve strength and balance
Wear supportive, well-fitting footwear

April is Falls Prevention Month, and recognising early warning signs is an important part of staying safe. 👀⚠️👣

Falls often do not happen without warning.

Some early signs to look out for include:

Feeling unsteady when walking
Using furniture or walls for support
Slower or shuffling steps
Feeling dizzy or unwell
Near misses and stumbles
Hesitation when starting to walk or turning
Avoiding activities due to fear of falling

These changes can increase your risk of falling, especially if they are new or getting worse.

Your feet and lower limbs play a key role in balance and stability. Pain, weakness or changes in the way you walk can all contribute.

If these signs sound familiar, speak with your GP, nurse, physiotherapist, exercise physiologist, occupational therapist or podiatrist for further assessment.

Heel pain doesn’t always mean plantar fasciitis 👣❓

Yes, it’s the most common cause of heel pain… but it’s not the only one.

That sharp pain first thing in the morning?
Pain after sitting?
Pain that just won’t go away?

It might be plantar fasciitis…
👉 but it could also be something else.

Getting the diagnosis right is the first step to getting the right treatment.

April is Falls Prevention Month, encouraging us to talk openly about falls and how to prevent them. 💬📊⚠️

Falls are a major health concern for older Australians:

1 in 4 Australians over 65 falls each year
Falls are the leading cause of injury-related hospitalisations
They are also a leading cause of death in older Australians

Falls are common, but they are not a normal part of ageing.

Many falls can be prevented with the right strategies, including addressing factors that affect balance and stability.

Your feet play an important role in keeping you steady. Foot pain, poor footwear and changes in the way you walk can all increase your risk of falling.

Starting the conversation is the first step towards staying safe and independent.

April is Falls Prevention Month, and this year’s theme is
“Let’s Talk About Falls. Staying Safe Starts with a Chat.” 💬👣⚠️

Understanding what a fall is is an important place to start.

The World Health Organization defines a fall as:
“An event that results in a person coming to rest inadvertently on the ground or a lower level.”

This includes:
-Slips or trips
-Losing your balance
-Rolling out of bed accidentally
-Falls that do not cause injury

A fall without injury is still a fall.
A fall onto a lower surface, no matter the distance or the type of surface, is still considered a fall.

Many people dismiss these moments, but they can be early signs of increased risk.

Starting the conversation early is key to staying safe and preventing future falls.

New foot, ankle or leg pain? 🤕 Not sure if it’s time to see a podiatrist? 🤔

We get it. Small injuries happen all the time. You might overdo it, trip, or just wake up with a ni**le. Life gets busy, so it’s easy to push through and hope it settles on its own.

But when should you actually get it checked?

Here are 5 signs it’s time to see a podiatrist sooner rather than later 👇

🌡️ Red, hot or swollen
This could indicate inflammation or infection and should be assessed promptly.

😢 It’s starting to affect your mood
Ongoing pain can wear you down. Even reducing the pain can make a big difference to how you feel day to day.

🏃🏼‍♀️ It’s impacting your daily life (more than 2 weeks)
If it’s stopping you from exercising, working, or doing things around the house, it’s worth addressing.

🛫 You have something important coming up
Travel, sport, or a big life event. If you need to be moving well, getting on top of it early matters.

🤷‍♂️ That “ni**le” isn’t going away (1 month+)
Even if it comes and goes, persistent pain is a sign something isn’t right.

If you’ve been putting up with it, this is your sign to get it checked 👍

Falls are a leading cause of injury, hospitalisation, and loss of independence among older Australians ⚠️👣🧠

In fact, 1 in 4 people over 65 will experience a fall each year.

This April, Falls Prevention Month focuses on raising awareness and starting important conversations about reducing fall risk.

This year’s theme, “Let’s Talk About Falls. Staying Safe Starts with a Chat,” reminds us that recognising risks early and taking action can make a real difference.

Over the coming weeks, we will be sharing:

-What a fall actually is
-How common falls are
-Early warning signs to look out for
-Practical ways to reduce risk

Because staying safe starts with understanding and a conversation.
