💙 Ovarian Cancer Awareness & Our Commitment to Women’s Health 💙
At Eleanor Clinic, women’s health is at the heart of everything we do. Ovarian cancer remains one of the most challenging cancers affecting women and people with female reproductive organs. In Australia, around 1,900 new cases are diagnosed each year, and tragically over 1,000 lives are lost annually.
One of the greatest challenges is that ovarian cancer can be hard to detect early. Symptoms are often subtle, can mimic everyday conditions, and there is currently no reliable population-wide screening test. That’s why awareness — and listening to your body — is so important.
✨ Early detection can make a life-changing difference.
Common symptoms to be aware of include:
• Persistent bloating or abdominal swelling
• Pelvic or abdominal pain
• Feeling full quickly after eating
• Frequent or urgent urination
• Unexplained changes in weight or appetite
If these symptoms are new, persistent, or unusual for you, please don’t ignore them. A conversation with your GP could be crucial.
At Eleanor Clinic, we are deeply committed to providing compassionate, inclusive, and thorough care, supporting women at every stage of life, and taking concerns seriously — because your health matters.
If you’re worried, need advice, or would like a check-up, we’re here for you. 💙

…and so much more!
Primary health care is such a vital part of our health system—supporting prevention, early intervention, and ongoing care—and our nurses are right at the heart of it every single day.
💙 Thank you, RN Eunice and RN Tennisha, for your expertise, dedication, and compassion. Our patients and team are so lucky to have you!

Today is Physical Disability Awareness Day 💙
A time to recognize the diverse experiences, strengths and contributions of people living with physical disabilities — and to reflect on how we can all help build a more inclusive and accessible community.
At Eleanor Clinic, inclusion and equity are at the core of our values. This week, our team met with researchers from the University of Melbourne to discuss participating in an important research project supporting women, trans women and children escaping family violence. We are proud to be exploring ways to contribute to research that centres safety, dignity and access to care for those who are often most vulnerable.
People living with physical disabilities may face additional barriers when affected by domestic, family or sexual violence. Ensuring services are accessible, trauma-informed and inclusive is essential — and something we remain deeply committed to.
If you or someone you know needs support, 1800RESPECT is available 24/7, offering free, confidential counselling and support:
📞 Call 1800 737 732
📱 Text 0458 737 732
💻 Online chat & video calls via their website
If hearing or speaking is difficult, you can also access 1800RESPECT through the National Relay Service.
Support is always available — and no one has to face this alone.

Congratulations to all the parents and carers who have supported their child through starting a new routine this year. Beginning kinder, daycare, or school is a big milestone—for children and parents. Remember: one day at a time. You’ve got this.
New routines (or changes to routines) can be stressful and often take more energy than we expect. Make sure you’re also taking time to recharge your own batteries.
For neurodivergent families, this time of year can be especially demanding, with many changes happening all at once. You know your family best. You have the right to choose what supports your wellbeing—and if that means saying no, slowing down, or doing things differently so you can recharge your batteries, that is not only okay, it’s necessary.
If you’re finding that your batteries feel constantly empty and you’re struggling just to get through the day, support is available. If you or your children need extra support, your doctors at Eleanor Clinic are here to help.
We hope you can enjoy your weekend—maybe with a coffee, a walk, an exercise class, or simply taking a moment to look at some sunflowers 🌻
You’ve got this.

🚨 AIR QUALITY ALERT 🚨
A smoky haze is affecting our inner west area this morning.
Victorian Department of Health reports VERY POOR air quality across parts of West Melbourne due to bushfire smoke from the Carlisle River–Gellibrand area.

• Keep windows & doors closed
• Use a HEPA air purifier if available
• Wear a P2/N95 mask if outdoors

Cancer Awareness Month
This is your Public Cervix Announcement
Cervical cancer is one of the most preventable cancers — and protecting yourself starts with three simple steps:
✔️ Be informed
✔️ Get screened
✔️ Get vaccinated against HPV
At Eleanor Clinic, we want to make cervical screening as comfortable, respectful, and accessible as possible.
💗 Cervical screening is for everyone with a cervix
If you are a woman or a person with a cervix aged 25–74, and you’ve ever had sexual contact with anyone of any gender, regular cervical screening every 5 years is important — even if you feel well.
✨ You have a choice
You can now:
Do the test yourself using a small swab (self-collection), or
Have the test done by your doctor
Both options are equally effective at detecting HPV — the virus that causes most cervical cancers. The best test is the one you feel comfortable having.
We’re here to support you, answer questions, and help you choose what’s right for you — without judgement and without pressure.
📅 Bookings are available now
Looking after your cervix is looking after your future self.
Extreme Heat Day – Let’s Look After Each Other ☀️
With temperatures forecast to exceed 40°C, we encourage everyone to take extra care and check in on vulnerable members of our community.
💧 At Eleanor Clinic, we’re doing our part to help you stay cool:
Cool filtered water available
Icy poles ready for patients
📞 Too hot to travel?
If it’s too hot for you or your little ones to leave the house, please let us know. We’re happy to change your appointment to Telehealth where appropriate.
📚 Cool community spaces
Thank you to the City of Maribyrnong
for keeping local libraries open longer, providing free, air-conditioned spaces for our community.
Braybrook Library open until 8pm .
Maribyrnong Aquatic Centre is also a great place to cool down
🐾 Don’t forget your pets
While taking steps to protect yourself, please also consider your pets:
Ensure constant access to fresh water and shade
If it’s too hot for your hand on the ground, it’s too hot for pet paws
🧊 Remember to stay hydrated, stay cool, watch for signs of heat-related illness, and check in on those most at risk.

ADHD & Perimenopause Care for Women at Eleanor Clinic
Welcoming Dr Julie Carlie (FRACGP) !✨
Many women notice their ADHD symptoms worsen during perimenopause — or only become recognisable for the first time at this stage of life. Hormonal changes, particularly fluctuations in oestrogen, can significantly affect focus, memory, emotional regulation, sleep, and executive function.
This overlap between ADHD and perimenopause is still too often overlooked, leaving many women feeling dismissed, misunderstood, or unsure where to turn. Those women also often care for their children with ADHD and ASD.
Dr Julie Carlie has a special interest in supporting women at this complex crossroads. She offers thoughtful, neurodiversity-affirming, evidence-based care, taking into account hormonal health, brain function, mental wellbeing, and whole-person health.
✨ Dr Julie can help with:
• Worsening or newly recognised ADHD symptoms during perimenopause
• Brain fog, overwhelm, emotional changes, and reduced executive function
• ADHD assessment pathways and ongoing management for women and men
• Continuation of stimulant medication (after initiation by a psychiatrist or paediatrician)
• Perimenopause HRT care alongside mental health support
• Individualised, long-term care plans
• Healthy weight management options
Patients value Dr Julie’s calm, validating approach and her commitment to listening carefully and taking women’s experiences seriously.

Obviously, we named our Clinic after the Street we are located on but knowing Eleanor meant light: perfect! Eleanor Clinic is filled with so much light, it pours into each and every room.
When we dreamed up Eleanor Clinic, we were very conscious of sustainability and embracing the diversity of the local area. Footscray is such a wonderfully diverse place. From its people to the food and rich cultural backdrop: Footscray was the place for us from the very beginning.
A dedicated team came together to make Eleanor Clinic possible and we are truly grateful to those extraordinary people we met along the way. We would have never forged these connections with amazingly skilled local craftspeople and artisans had we sourced online.
Take Eleanor Clinic’s carpet, for instance. The manufacturer had produced a limited commercial run for a special project. We very much liked the texture and the subtle, calm pattern. But our small requirements were not feasible for a commercial run. What to do?
We ended up acquiring the off-cuts and made them work.
—
Eleanor Clinic was built with strong local roots. Most of our furniture are living their second life with us and they all have their own story to tell. Almost all came from places all over the Inner West.
We know what those typical clinics and hospitals with their cold white floors and blank walls look like: we have worked there for many years. Eleanor Clinic was going to be different: a place filled with warmth and a feeling of home: plants, a couch in the waiting room and warm timber pieces throughout. Many who come through our doors comment on how it feels like visiting someone’s home. We have to admit: hearing this makes us very happy.
And that’s how Eleanor Clinic came to be: with a lot of love, a lot of work and a lot of heart. We very much hope you enjoy it.
