🌙 World Sleep Day 💤 – 13th March
Sleep is essential for good health at every stage of life. This World Sleep Day, we want to shine a light on an often overlooked condition in children — Paediatric Obstructive Sleep-Disordered Breathing (OSDB).
👶 Did you know?
OSDB can affect up to 12% of children, yet many cases go unnoticed because symptoms are sometimes mistaken as “normal” or something children will simply outgrow.
⚠️ Possible signs to look out for in children include:
• Restless sleep
• Sleeping in unusual positions (such as with the neck extended)
• Mouth breathing during sleep
• Snoring
• Bed-wetting
• Behavioural issues during the day
When left unrecognised, sleep-disordered breathing may contribute to:
• Daytime sleepiness
• Behavioural and attention difficulties
• Increased risk of depression and loneliness
• Poorer school performance
😴 Sleep disorders are not just a childhood issue.
In adults, Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA) can increase the risk of serious health problems such as:
• High blood pressure
• Heart rhythm problems (arrhythmias)
• Stroke
• Heart attack
💡 Healthy sleep matters.
If you notice any of these symptoms in yourself or your loved ones, it may be worth discussing them with a healthcare professional.
