This isn’t perfect or evidence-based but it’s how I’ve explained food to my children and to be honest… it works quite well. My five year old now says “look mum I’m eating x vegetable and my guard is going to be stronger!”. It’s helped us navigate some fussiness and my son now understands why we should eat certain foods and eat others in moderation. It’s also the whole reason we created a hand drawn “guard” print on all of our products! This might not help everyone but if it helps one mum navigate wholefood eating, my job is done! 🙌👌

Another dinner, another 💩. The last time I shared a dinner reel I was told I was a bad parent - we’re all doing our best Karen & every dinner time looks different. Some days it’s as a family, some days it’s the kids at 4pm and the adults at 6pm. It is one of the most hectic times of the day but still my favourite! ❤️ no matter how many bums I have to wipe 😂😂

Not going to lie - the third child hits different! Don’t get me wrong, it is absolute chaos, but I’ve never felt so comfortable and appreciative in my role as a mum. I don’t care (as much) what people think, I love my children even more than I did (if that’s possible) and I definitely realise how fast time moves and how precious the moments are. Here are some things I’m doing differently!

Did you know a recent Australian study found that 1 in 3 one-year-olds and 2 in 3 three-year-olds have low iron? If you’ve ever had a toddler who suddenly decides beige is a food group (and nothing else), you’ll soon understand why iron can become a worry in motherhood (i’ve outlined the FACTS in this blog post).
Iron is one of the most important nutrients for growing children. It supports:
• Oxygen transport (via haemoglobin)�• Brain development�• Neurotransmitter production (including dopamine)�• Immune function�• Healthy sleep patterns 🫣🫣🫣

A deficiency can also cause poor appetite!

And yet, iron deficiency remains one of the most common nutrient deficiencies in infants and young children in Australia and worldwide (surprising I know!

I created this waffle recipe because my boys have been off iron rich foods for a while & I’ve been trying to find a way a new way to add whole iron + c into foods. They LOVE these waffles and have them for breakfast & afternoon tea. Sometimes I increase the egg content to 5, they really are a great breakfast to start the day ✅✅

Comment “recipe” and I’ll send it your way. Not going to lie, these have saved me this week with post school/daycare tantrums. They have gone through a whole batch and now asking for more. I add immune protein (of course) for the added nutrients after a long day. I find that one satiates them until dinner without spoiling their dinner (if you get what I mean!). I’m going to try a raspberry white choc version of this muffin and let you know if it’s any good! ❤️❤️
