A New Era in Aged Care Begins! 🌟
1 November 2025, the New Aged Care Act went live!!!!

Australia’s aged care system has officially entered a new chapter with the commencement of the New Aged Care Act 2024. This landmark legislation puts older Australians at the heart of aged care, ensuring dignity, choice, and respect for every individual accessing government-funded services.
Key Highlights of the New Act:
- A Statement of Rights enshrined in law, empowering older people to make decisions about their care.
- A simplified entry system with a single assessment process for easier access to services.
- - Stronger quality standards and regulatory oversight to ensure safe, high-quality care.
- Enhanced protections for whistleblowers and safeguards around supported decision-making.
- New fee arrangements based on means-tested contributions for non-clinical and everyday services.

This reform is a response to the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety and represents a once-in-a-generation transformation of the sector.

Today's New Aged Care Act information is about Cultural Safety.

The new Act recognises that people accessing aged care have the right to culturally safe care,
including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and those from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

• This means care that is trauma aware, healing-informed and respectful of culture, spirituality
and identity.

• The new Act also supports the right to stay connected to community, Country and Island Home. This is essential to the well-being of many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

• The new system will make sure these rights are part of both the delivery of and assessment for,
aged care services, making sure care is delivered in a way that is respectful, safe and meaningful.

If an older person or their representative is not happy with their aged care services or how a complaint was handled, they have the right to speak up.

1. Talk to Your Aged Care Provider Again
• Speak to a manager or staff member
• Use feedback forms or meetings

2. Contact the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission

• Online: agedcarequality.gov.au
• You can complain confidentially or anonymously

3. Get Help from OPAN (Older Persons Advocacy Network)
• Phone: 1800 700 600

• OPAN can help you write your complaint or speak up for you

🌼 May Highlights at Prom Country Aged Care 🌼

What a wonderful month it’s been!

💐 Mother’s Day – We celebrated the amazing mothers in our community with heartfelt moments, flowers, and lots of love.

🙌 Volunteer Appreciation Day – A big THANK YOU to our incredible volunteers who bring joy and support to our residents every day.

🎶 Musical Entertainers – Our halls were filled with music and smiles as talented performers brought cheer and dancing feet.

🎨 Craft Classes – Creativity was flowing with fun and colourful crafts made by our residents—such talent on display!

🏳️‍🌈 Pride March – We proudly celebrated diversity and inclusion as some of our residents joined in with the local Pride March.

🌸 April Highlights at Prom Country Aged Care 🌸

April was a busy and heartwarming month for us here at Prom Country Aged Care! 💛

🐰 We had a surprise visit from the Easter Bunny, spreading smiles and chocolatey joy.
🍞 Residents enjoyed delicious homemade hot cross buns – fresh from the oven and full of love.
🚒 A big thank you to our local Fire Brigade for stopping by in support of the Good Friday Appeal – we loved having you here!
🌺 We wrapped up the month with a moving ANZAC Day service, beautifully supported by the Foster RSL. Lest we forget.

We’re so grateful for our wonderful community and all those who helped make this month so special. 💐
