Janel Gibson - Arts Therapist

Janel Gibson - Arts Therapist Janel Gibson is an Arts Therapist (AThR) and Peer Worker.
(1)

Creative Arts Therapy offers a way to multi-modally explore and communicate your thoughts, feelings, emotions and experiences, using all arts forms, such as painting, clay, movement or sound/music. In Creative Arts Therapy, we focus on the process of arts making rather than just creating a piece of art. No artistic skills or ability are required to participate in creative arts therapy. Arts therapist, Janel Gibson, works from the principles of Intentional Peer Support and the MIECAT form of Inquiry. These include valuing lived experience and considering individuals as experts of their own lives. Instead of telling you what you should do in each situation, Janel will walk alongside you to come to a place of meaning and making sense of something that holds value or significance for you. Arts therapies can help people to resolve conflicts, develop interpersonal skills, manage behaviour, reduce stress, increase self-esteem and achieve insight. Using the arts to explore the unknown allows for space and distance from topics that feel
emotionally charged and thus provides an invitation to ‘stay with’ discomfort in a safe way.

As everyone has their own ways of being and doing, the Arts Therapist will work together with the client to create a safe space to attend to what arises. Services:
- Individual Sessions
- Group Program
- Wellbeing Sessions for businesses/community groups

🎨 Art Therapy ≠ Art Class
In art therapy, it’s not about making perfect art — it’s about making meaning.

While an art class teaches creative skills and technique, art therapy supports growth in areas that matter for daily life — things like emotional regulation, communication, social interaction, confidence, and self-expression.

It’s a safe space to explore feelings, build resilience, and work toward your goals through creativity and connection. ✨

You don’t need artistic talent — just openness and curiosity.

When your child says, 'I'm fine,' it might really mean, 'I don’t know how to tell you what I’m feeling.'

As parents/caregivers , we want to be there-but what if our kids just don’t have the words yet?

That’s where art comes in. 🎨✨

Art therapy gives children a safe, creative outlet to explore emotions they can’t quite express verbally. Whether it’s stress from school, anxiety, grief, or just the rollercoaster of growing up, putting feelings on paper can be incredibly freeing.

And no-your child doesn’t need to be an “artist.” It’s not about perfect drawings. It’s about expression, connection, and healing.

💛 If you’ve noticed your child is withdrawn, anxious, or struggling to open up, consider starting with something simple:

- Leave out art supplies and invite them to create without pressure.
- Ask them to draw “how today felt.”
- Or take the next step and explore working with a professionally ANZACATA registered art therapist.

Let art open the door that words can’t.

Friendship can be one of our greatest sources of strength - yet it’s easy to lose touch with connection when life gets busy or self-doubt creeps in.

🌸 This group art therapy workshop invites you to gently explore what friendship means to you, who you are as a friend, and how to nurture the connections that matter most.

You’ll create, reflect, and reconnect — with yourself and with others who value authentic, supportive friendship.

💫 No art skills needed — just an open heart.

In my creative therapy sessions, you can stretch, fidget, sit cross-legged, or even lie on the floor if that’s what helps your body feel calm.
For children and adults alike, we work with your sensory needs — not against them.
Because comfort and safety aren’t luxuries in healing — they’re the foundation.
