It’s just the Council making a buck,” or “The ocean isn’t fenced, so why is my pool?” 🌊🤔

We hear the pushback every single day. We get it, compliance can feel like another hurdle or a box to tick for the authorities. But here’s the truth from our side of the fence:

We might not be able to fence the entire coastline of Australia (as much as we’d love to if it meant zero drownings), but we do have the opportunity to make your backyard safe.

The Council has their rules, but we have our mission. If one compliant gate or one secure fence prevents even a single tragedy, then every bit of effort is worth it. We aren’t just checking boxes. We’re protecting families.
Feel free to DM me and I can answer any of your questions :)

Got a backyard spa? ♨️

“It’s only temporary.”
“It’s got a lid.”
“I’m always watching the kids.”

So surely I don’t need council registration and a fence for this… right?

This is one of the biggest misconceptions we see in Victoria.

If your spa holds 30cm of water or more, it must:

• Be registered with your local council
• Comply with the relevant safety standard
• Have a compliant safety barrier (a lid alone isn’t enough)
• Be inspected and issued a Certificate of Compliance

A lockable lid is a great extra layer of protection, but legally, it’s not a substitute for a permanent, compliant barrier.

And this isn’t just about avoiding a fine. It’s about safety in our own homes.

Drowning can happen in seconds, even in shallow water and often when a child is left unattended for only a moment.

If you’ve got a backyard spa and you’re unsure what applies to you, feel free to send us a message, a photo, or ask any questions.

We’re here to guide you through it.

The good news? A great inspector won’t just tell you “no”, they’ll show you the way to “yes.” 🤝

We believe the difference between a stressful “fail” and a quick “pass” is having an inspector who provides on-the-spot fixes or a clear roadmap of recommended trades to get the job done right. We’ve got you covered either way.

Don’t let a late-night “failed” email be your first update. We’re all about real-time solutions and clear communication.

Your pool gate might close… but is it actually compliant?

Pool barrier compliance isn’t just about whether it closes. It must self-close and self-latch from multiple positions, meet height requirements, and align correctly under tension.

Gates naturally lose tension over time. Hinges shift. Alignment changes.

When your pool compliance is due, message us or book online to secure your inspection for $225!

🏊‍♂️ Do You Need to Be Home for Your Pool Inspection?
The short answer: No. The better answer: We’d love it if you were! 🤝

While we can definitely handle the inspection while you’re out, having you there means we can tackle those minor tweaks like moving a plant or adjusting a latch together.

Plus, we’ll show you exactly what to keep an eye on so your pool stays compliant for years to come!

Failing a pool inspection can feel like a total deep-end dive into stress. 🌊🏊‍♂️

But before you start checking off that long (and potentially expensive) list of fixes, remember: you’re entitled to a second opinion!

We know that a failed report can be overwhelming. That’s why we prioritise education above all else. We don’t just tell you what’s wrong; we make sure you actually understand the “why” and “how” behind the regulations. Our goal is to empower you with the knowledge needed to achieve and maintain pool safety.

Of course, our focus is always on guiding you to compliance, but in the case that your pool does need a few things adjusted, you’re generally given up to 60 days to complete the required works and organise a re-inspection.

We’ll clearly explain what needs fixing, help point you in the right direction with trades if needed and we don’t charge for re-inspections!

Council fines are one of the biggest worries we hear about with pool inspections.
But it all depends on what the issue is.

Small things? Often they can be adjusted or fixed on the day.

More serious issues, such as a missing fence panel or a barrier that’s clearly not compliant, may result in a Form 24 (non-compliance notice), which can lead to a council fine.

This is why it’s a good idea to ask questions if you’re unsure whether something needs fixing or adjusting beforehand!

We’re here to guide you and help you become compliant. ✔️

Why choose a private pool inspector instead of council?

1. Cost-effective
Council inspections generally cost more. We offer a clear, flat fee.

2. No re-inspection fees
If a re-inspection is needed, we don’t charge extra.
$225 total, regardless of the number of visits.

3. Personal, supportive service
We communicate with you. Before your inspection, we’re happy to guide you through photos or videos so you know exactly what to check, giving you the best chance of being compliant, not just hoping for the best on the day!

4. Strong industry relationships
If something does need fixing, we have trusted connections with trades within the pool industry to help point you in the right direction.

5. We service a wide area
Local councils inspect pools within their own municipality. As a private inspector, we’re able to service Melbourne, the Mornington Peninsula, and surrounding suburbs, making it easy to assist pool and spa owners across multiple areas with the same clear process and consistent service.

If you’ve got a pool inspection coming up in 2026, here’s how to prepare!

First, it’s important to know which pool safety standard applies to your pool. This is based on when your pool was built or approved. You can check council records, a building permit or speak with a registered pool inspector.

If you’re unsure whether something is compliant, you can send through photos or videos or we can even jump on a quick FaceTime so I can take a look and guide you.

If your pool has been inspected before, make sure nothing has changed since then, and if you know your inspection is due this year, booking ahead helps you stay organised and prepared!

Can I book my inspection before it’s due? Yes, to secure your spot, not to inspect early 📅✔️

We recommend booking ahead once you know your due date, so your inspection is scheduled for when it’s due, not before ⏳

This way, you receive the full 4-year certificate and only re-inspect when council requires it 🏊‍♂️✔️
