Don’t let your landscaping compromise your compliance!

Here’s the breakdown:

The 900mm vs. 1200mm Rule: For pools built after 1 May 2010, the “no-climb zone” is 900mm from the fence. If your pool was built before that date, that zone extends to 1200mm.

The 15kg Test: Plants must be flexible. If a branch can support 15kg, it’s a climbing hazard. Stick to soft, leafy species.

Maintenance = Safety: A compliant hedge today can become a “ladder” in six months. Regular pruning is a must to stay certified.

We hear this quite often... and we see where you’re coming from!

But here is the reality.
Pool fences aren’t just for the people living in the house. They are a universal safety barrier for the entire community.

Whether it’s a visiting family member, a neighbour’s child, or even a future homeowner, a compliant pool fence is a permanent shield against the unthinkable. In Australia, the law doesn’t distinguish between households with or without children because safety is a collective responsibility. 🤝

At Rules for Pools, we believe a compliant barrier is the best way to ensure your backyard remains a place of relaxation and joy for everyone who enters it, today and in the future. 💙

Is your pool gate a Lazy Latcher? 😴
A gate that doesn’t close and lock from every position isn’t just annoying. it’s the #1 reason pools fail safety compliance.

If your gate gets stuck resting on the latch, it’s time to call David. At Rules for Pools, we don’t just identify the problem; we provide the education and tools to adjust your hinges and latches so they self-close and self-latch every single time.

Are you confused about which standard applies to your pool before your inspection? 🏊‍♂️

Navigating pool safety in Victoria can feel like a maze of dates. We know the stress! One neighbour says you need an expensive glass fence, while another says your brick wall built in the 80’s is fine.

Stop guessing and start preparing. David is here to help you get it right the first time. He’ll review your property, identify your construction date, and pinpoint the exact Victorian standard you need to meet. From checking door latches to verifying fence heights, he’ll ensure your pool is safe and ready to pass.

DM us to book a consultation with David for $225 and get your compliance sorted!

It’s just the Council making a buck,” or “The ocean isn’t fenced, so why is my pool?” 🌊🤔

We hear the pushback every single day. We get it, compliance can feel like another hurdle or a box to tick for the authorities. But here’s the truth from our side of the fence:

We might not be able to fence the entire coastline of Australia (as much as we’d love to if it meant zero drownings), but we do have the opportunity to make your backyard safe.

The Council has their rules, but we have our mission. If one compliant gate or one secure fence prevents even a single tragedy, then every bit of effort is worth it. We aren’t just checking boxes. We’re protecting families.
Feel free to DM me and I can answer any of your questions :)

Got a backyard spa? ♨️

“It’s only temporary.”
“It’s got a lid.”
“I’m always watching the kids.”

So surely I don’t need council registration and a fence for this… right?

This is one of the biggest misconceptions we see in Victoria.

If your spa holds 30cm of water or more, it must:

• Be registered with your local council
• Comply with the relevant safety standard
• Have a compliant safety barrier (a lid alone isn’t enough)
• Be inspected and issued a Certificate of Compliance

A lockable lid is a great extra layer of protection, but legally, it’s not a substitute for a permanent, compliant barrier.

And this isn’t just about avoiding a fine. It’s about safety in our own homes.

Drowning can happen in seconds, even in shallow water and often when a child is left unattended for only a moment.

If you’ve got a backyard spa and you’re unsure what applies to you, feel free to send us a message, a photo, or ask any questions.

We’re here to guide you through it.

The good news? A great inspector won’t just tell you “no”, they’ll show you the way to “yes.” 🤝

We believe the difference between a stressful “fail” and a quick “pass” is having an inspector who provides on-the-spot fixes or a clear roadmap of recommended trades to get the job done right. We’ve got you covered either way.

Don’t let a late-night “failed” email be your first update. We’re all about real-time solutions and clear communication.

Your pool gate might close… but is it actually compliant?

Pool barrier compliance isn’t just about whether it closes. It must self-close and self-latch from multiple positions, meet height requirements, and align correctly under tension.

Gates naturally lose tension over time. Hinges shift. Alignment changes.

When your pool compliance is due, message us or book online to secure your inspection for $225!

🏊‍♂️ Do You Need to Be Home for Your Pool Inspection?
The short answer: No. The better answer: We’d love it if you were! 🤝

While we can definitely handle the inspection while you’re out, having you there means we can tackle those minor tweaks like moving a plant or adjusting a latch together.

Plus, we’ll show you exactly what to keep an eye on so your pool stays compliant for years to come!
