๐ฑ Purr-fect Recovery ๐ฑ
๐ฉธFleur is a beautiful 10 year old female cat who had been straining to urinate and her owners had noticed blood in her urine. She was diagnosed with struvite crystalluria (crystals in the urine) after a urinalysis was performed, and had been started on medication, but was still exhibiting signs.
๐ฉป Dr Qiu performed a bladder ultrasound and an x-ray on Fleur and found that she had a bladder stone.
Crystalluria refers to the presence of crystals in the urine. These crystals are made up of minerals and other substances that would normally be dissolved in the urine. When high concentrations of minerals and other substances crystalise in the urine and clump together, they eventually harden and become stones. This process can be influenced by several factors, including dehydration, diet, urinary tract infections, genetics, and abnormalities in a cat's metabolism.
๐ฅ Dr Qiu took Fleur straight to surgery for a cystotomy - a surgical procedure that involves making an incision into the bladder to remove bladder stones. The single bladder stone was removed and Fleur made a full recovery and is urinating freely once more.
๐ Fleur is now on Hills Prescription Diet C/D to prevent further stones forming.
