Recently we said farewell to our incredible Veterinary Nurse Jenny, after more than five years of care, compassion and contagious laughter.
Jenny has been a true light in our hospital. She is a fierce patient advocate, a team cheerleader, and someone who always put family (and furry friends!) first.

Weโ€™ll miss her stories, her spark, and the way she made every shift a little brighter.

Her next team is lucky to have her, and we canโ€™t wait to see what she does next.

Last Saturday, our hospital proudly partnered with Pets Of The Homeless Australia to host the โ€œFix-A-Friendโ€ Community Desexing Day โ€” a heart-warming initiative supporting pet owners doing it tough.
With 12 extra team members on board, we completed 18 desexing surgeries, plus microchipping and vaccinations. It was a big day with an even bigger impact.

Spaying and neutering not only help control the pet population, but also offer long-term health and behavioural benefits for dogs and cats. Through Pets of the Homeless, the Fix-A-Friend program provides subsidised desexing for approved applicants ensuring vital care remains accessible for those facing financial hardship.
Weโ€™re incredibly proud to be part of a community that shows up for pets and people alike. Huge thanks to our dedicated team for ensuring every patient received outstanding veterinary care. ๐Ÿ’›

We were so lucky to have Katie from the Lincoln Institute of Veterinary Business visit our clinic this week!

Our team has been taking part in the Emerging Leaders program, and itโ€™s been such a rewarding experience. Weโ€™ve seen incredible growth not just in individuals, but in how we work together as a team. ๐Ÿ˜บ Penny is a beautiful 13 year old Ragdoll cat, who has had a few issues with hairballs throughout her lifetime. Cats get hairballs through grooming. Their tongues have little tiny barbs on them, so when they lick the fur, these hairs get trapped and swallowed. Most hair is able to pass through the digestive system, however sometimes it can accumulate and form a clump in the stomach. Cats will usually vomit these back up, but occasionally they become too big and cause a gastrointestinal blockage. Trichobezoar is just the fancy name for a hairball!

๐Ÿฉบ Penny presented to see Dr Ari as she had been vomiting and off her food. An ultrasound was performed by Dr Rob that showed something large in the stomach and some thickening of the small intestine.

๐Ÿฅ She was taken straight to surgery, where a gastrotomy was performed (cutting into the stomach) and a large trichobezoar was removed! Biopsies were also taken from her intestines, due to the thickening seen on ultrasound, and histopathology showed that she has a condition known as chronic enteropathy. This is ongoing inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract due to things such as IBD (inflammatory bowel disease) or food allergies/intolerances.

๐Ÿ’› Penny was the puurfect patient and we are working with Penny's owners to perform a hypoallergenic diet trial to see if this helps her with her gastrointestinal signs, as well as managing her hairballs, moving forward.
