Today I’m jumping straight into ‘appreciation. As a couples therapist I see and hear a lot of the problems (which is my job), but it is important to remind ourselves of what our partner does offer, does bring to the relationship even when it is hard to find.

We are heading into another week of January! Are you wondering whether talking to someone could be helpful. Are you reflecting on the year that was, feeling stuck or overwhelmed???

Sometimes talking to someone who is neutral, offers space for you to lay it all out and respectfully sit with you without judgement means you can find that version of yourself that you have been searching for.

When working with Anxiety - there are many ways to work with it.

Here are 6 ways….

My favourite is number 1… it’s how we talk about it, if you can gain control and help the body and mind to notice that there is no threat and you’re safe - it will help calm you.
You can even try the ‘I am excited’ as the same flight-fight response is triggered but when you apply a different cognitive label based on context, you can shift from threat (anxiety) to opportunity (excitement).

Like anything, it’s not easy, but with awareness and practice you may see anxiety differently. Please note this is not talking about anxiety disorders, that requires more intervention.

Are you inspired by quotes? Do words help lift you, motivate you, drive you to action?

I love words, the impact they have. I can feel a difference when I hear lyrics or a quote or words that mean something.

My all time favourite is ‘It is what it is’, these words can sound dismissive but when you say it, it is saying it for what it is. These words ground me, helps me be present and see it for what it is.

I hold space for people from all walks of life. From crisis intervention, safety planning to navigating conflict and helping to dig that bit deeper in finding resolve or a form of acceptance.

Upon reflection though, communication tends to be the number one winner of why people see me. I really listen to language used and challenge it to help people see another perspective.

The counselling space isn’t about me, but if you want to change or seek guidance, it is important to feel comfortable - I invite my clients to ask questions, even if they don’t seem relevant!

How are things going for you?

Have you been sitting in a space of discontent, low mood, questioning relational dynamics, stressed, anxious and seeking something to change???

How are you?

It’s been awhile since I have posted. I have been working with clients as well as back in a secondary school helping in the well-being team. I have enjoyed being back in team environment and assisting teens. I am still working privately so still have time to see you.

Good news is I have Friday times available.

As a reminder here are my current hours
Mt Eliza - Monday, Tuesday AM, Fridays
Balnarring - Tuesday PM
Evening hours are also available, although do fill fast, if you’d like to be placed on a waitlist please let me know.

I have been doing this for the past few years. The push-up challenge.

From 5-28 June the aim is to complete 3,249 push-ups (or alternative exercises) representing the 3,249 lives lost to su***de in Australia in 2022.

Today’s target is 52, the benefits of getting into the ocean, even once a week for a year (52 times) improves mental health.
Interesting, my 15yr old came home today saying she went for an unplanned ocean dip and noted that she felt energised. I wonder if she will keep it up for that weekly dip, to continue feeling the benefit.

Who else has done the ocean swimming??

Thought I would change things up abit, by putting the I AM first!

These are reminders that we need to put effort into how we speak to ourselves.
When we hear the I can’t, I don’t want to, it’s too hard, I can’t cope…. It’s important to continue and end the thought that is uplifting, driven, more positive.

End the thought with something that has you move into action, rather than sitting in the negative or low space. Not easy, BUT possible 😀

Are you up for a challenge? As we work together in helping our thoughts move from negative to more positive and kind. I thought I would let you fill in the blank this week.

Remember what we are trying to achieve here - it is working on noticing what we are saying and finishing it off in a kinder, more uplifting way.

We know that talking negative is part of us, but we don’t have to end the thought/sentence with that. It can affect what happens next in our day, mood, reactions.

So, when we notice the thought of hard, or can’t or real challenge that seems impossible. Bring in the coach part of you and say But, I can take this on or but there is always a way out….. etc

Take a few moments and go back over these and see what you can try today.

If you feel comfortable, I would love to hear some in the comments.

And remember you are you, and you, all of you are enough, capable, loveable, uniquely you.

Welcome to Monday. I thought I would go back to the first post to remind us of afew things

Did you know we have over 60,000 thoughts a day….. some of those thoughts get caught in a loop, meaning they are on repeat daily. If we are telling ourselves life is hard, or that I am not enough and repeat it over and over ….. it becomes something we subconsciously believe.

How can we flip or challenge the thoughts so we can end the thought on a kinder more positive note ?

When you notice the negative add BUT and bring in a more positive note to it. Life is hard BUT it is also rewarding.

Hope you have been able to break some of the unkind beliefs that have looped in, and allow the thought to end on a kinder, compassionate, positive note.

 We can change how we think! If you notice what you’re saying and how it leaves you feeling, you can change it.How?Well ...

Well like the Monday mantra, when you notice a negative, one way is to finish the thought with a positive or kinder thought. There is always another way of looking at it.

So remember when you have a thought that has you feeling low, think of how you can finish it with a lift.
